Could the Different States Become Separate Countries in the Future?

Posted on 10/17/2013 8:45:51 AM PDT by ComtedeMaistre

Governor Rick Perry was once alleged to have stated that Texas could secede in the future. But he now states he opposes succession:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/onpolitics/2012/11/13/rick-perry-texas-secession-petition/1702359/

If the different states were to become different nations, the federal government would cease to exist. That means that the federal debt would be reduced to Zero. But the price that Americans would pay, would be the loss of super power status. Would Americans be better off or worse off, if the states were to become different countries?

I refer your fantasy to the answer I gave some moments ago.

The only people that are dreaming are those that think the status quo is sustainable. The dissolution of FedGov™ would mean greater freedom and less anarchy, not more.

Depends. Logically every state owns its share of the debt, so mere secession would only mean that Texas had a debt. The question is: do Americans favor renouncing their debt? And if so, which part of it?

Imagine that Texas left the Union. They might renounce the debt, they would also forfeit Social Security, military pensions, Medicare for old people, etc. Maybe most people would be ok with this, but I suspect (for example) a lot of retired military guys would not be happy with it. Texas could of course choose to replace their mission pensions with State of Texas pensions, but the question would be "where does that end".

So, it's not so simple as you postulate.

Damn. I'd hate to see a draft of your constitution.

I thought he was quoting the Affordable Care Act!

If the only reason a state like Texas can justify staying in the Union is due to the debt, then that should tell you something....

Possible, yes.

Probable, no.

this donmeaker is a collectivist/socialist/statist.

So what if we in Louisiana want to have independence and freedom and live our lives how we want to free of oppressive taxation? what’s it to you collectivists who want to enslaves us to the government? Yes we want to secede and you are not our masters to tell us we can’t.

if you add up all the taxes it’s at least 60% of our incomes . add to those burdens the oppressive federal government as in the IRS oppressing conservatives, Obama’s unconstitutional acts, burdensome regulations etc.

so we have the right to peacefully secede from this tyranny in DC but the collectivists/democrats say we don’t and must submit to tyranny.

democrat obama and democrats are the extremist socialists/statists.

all we want is for the government to leave us alone, to leave businesses alone and to leave the free market alone. all we want is to live our lives how we want to ,to be left alone. that’s called freedom and it’s what we want . we want liberty and independence and for that we are extremists these socialists/democrats say. they say we are racists because we want smaller government.

when have we ever gotten anything? when has government been reduced in size ? Never. but they don’t even want to talk to us . we have to secede now .we can’t deal with these liberals/democrats. let them be slaves of the government in their stupid socialist utopia . i call for states to secede. why aren’t more here calling for this ? why aren’t our conservative leaders (Rush, Savage, Levin , coulter, Palin etc) even calling for the resignation of this Obama communist tyrant for his many violations of the Constitution and the law?

I oppose starting illegal violent insurrections.

LOL!!! They ALL are illegal, violent insurrections, Don, unless the illegal, violent insurrectionists win. Then they're Patriots.

It's always been this way.

As it is, it’s too big.

Perhaps it could separate into independent countries (which would consist of groups of states).

California is already part of Mexico again.

Here’s the thing, there will be no CWII

More 1776 than 1861, IMHO.

The idea of secession will catch on when the leftist/socialist who live in the blue states think it is a good idea. Right now they are winning politically and forcing socialism on the unwashed red states. If they start to lose then they will want to carve off a piece of the USA to create their Socialist Utopia™. Nothing is a valid concept unless “they” think it is. So the trick here is to get the MSM and the establishment leftists to buy off on the idea - like it was their idea.

When they start killing us, the preachers will tell us to "turn the other cheek." Find a new preacher.

I've already left organized Christianity behind. The institutions have all betrayed the message.

Too many Conservatives are still willing to sit through "Social Justice" sermons.

I guess you also note that a successful insurrection would require mass murder.

Not necessarily; selective reduction of the individuals GIVING THE ORDERS and their immediate subordinates in the command structure would cause the oppression to fizzle out like a badly struck match. The grunt level jackboots would flee for home to protect their own families, believing that they are next.

That would be expressly anti-liberty and unchristian. How about we try to educate people to our cause? But even so, in an almost perfect world where most Americans would vote for Constitutional conservatives, what would you do with those who would not?

Kill them?

Imprison them?

Vote them off the island?

Take away their rights to vote and believe what ever the hell they wanted?

I wouldn’t want to live in YOUR Republic!

The next civil war won’t be a battle between states, it will be battles between Urban and Rural areas all over the country.

I so agree. when the fed collapses, the EBT crowd will get very angry but will face self defense outside their comfort zones.

So what makes you think if FedGov™ collapses the states governments will just dissolve? Where does this idiotic thinking come from? You are spreading fear and BS.

But these yahoo ninnies want me to believe FedGov™ would nuke Dallas? LOL

WADR, this iteration of the FedGov™ hates Dallas and loves communists. I'd give it only a 50/50 chance that cooler heads would prevail.
