Any government shutdown would be ordered by the petulant President Obama and Senate Democrats
Sept 23, 2013 | Jim Robinson

Let's be absolutely clear here. If the Democrat controlled Senate rejects the Continuing Resolution passed by the House that completely funds the entire government except for President Obama's unconstitutional, nation-wrecking, job-killing, pet project, the trainwreck also known as "Obamacare," then it is they (Obama and the Democrat Senate) who are clearly ordering the totally radical and unnecessary shutdown the of the federal government.

The bill passed by the House fully funds all legitimate government functions. The people do not want federal government controlling their healthcare and they are speaking through their elected representatives.

It would be prudent for the President and the Senate to abide by the will of the people rather than threatening them. Pass the bill that funds the government!

And stop lying. Do not blame any shutdown on the Republicans in the House. They are doing the will of the people. When you blame them for your own obstinate acts, you are lying and you are punishing the people.

And when you claim our military won't be paid, you are lying. When you say social security checks won't go out you are lying. Past experience proves that all essential government services will continue. The main thing that will happen if the Democrat President and the Democrat Senate orders the radical shutdown of the government is hundreds of thousand of non-essential government employees will be laid off. Big deal. Life will go on.

Can you get that on ABC, NBC, CBS, the NYT, WAPO, Chicago Tribune, et al.?

It isn’t clear to me that the American public gets it. Has anyone seen solid polling that American voters are aware of what’s going on?

There is talk that the Senate Democrats will try an end run by putting an amendment in this bill that allows Obamacare.

My understanding is that Republicans may refuse to allow them to do so...

Right on Jim. As I’ve been saying since joining the ranks of posters at the forum in January of 2004 (Lurked since 2001) about the bureaucracies. They are crammed with Leftist/Liberals therefore the Leftist perceived disaster if government is shut down.

We need to shut down the vast majority of those mostly Leftist/Liberal initiated Federal Departments those Leftist/Liberal bureaucracies crammed with entrenched Leftist/Liberal support anyway, so if Reid and company force the shutdown of government they will be forcing the lay off of mostly their own.

“Obama and his ilk do not necessarily want to end the United States right away, I think they want to merge it into a utopian socialist world order.”

That would be their dream. However, I think they realize it’s not going to play out like that. So what’s a more realistic plan to accomplish largely the same result at least in the parts of the country they actually care about: the population centers on the left and east coasts?

Let’s say TX secedes and the divorce is relatively peaceable. While I personally don’t think that TX would be the first state, nor do I think it would be peaceable, let’s assume it for the sake of discussion.

Do the electoral math. TX leaving is Game Over for the rest of the states unless they want to come under the socialist yoke. So it’s hard choice time for the remaining more or less conservative states. Go with TX or stay and hope for the best? Some would go. Others would stay. End result for the remaining US: uncontested socialism in a somewhat smaller country size wise.

All in all it would be a solid win for the radical leftists and their ilk.

Spot on!

Like Sarah said, "Let’s be clear. Republicans in Congress aren't advocating a government shutdown. That’s why they voted in the House to fully fund our bureaucracy while defunding Obamacare. The conservatives in Congress are listening to the majority of Americans who do not want Obamacare."

I have no way to do that, but people like Ted Cruz, Mile Lee, Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin and many other statesmen and spokespersons do. And they certainly are and will continue doing so.

The Republicans want to keep the government open and stop Obamacare

Actually, the RINOs got caught doing backroom deals to save Obamacare until it became obvious. If those traitors don't support the defund movement, no conservative will ever vote for them again. They'd be through, and hopefully they're beginning to see it.

There’s an aspect to this that has gotten lost in all the inside baseball and it’s kind of the dog that isn’t barking:

Ten months ago after Obama was re-elected, the news was all about how the Republican party was on its last legs and about to die. If you had said back then that in September of 2013 the debate would be about whether to defund Obamacare, and the tax increases, new spending, and end to the sequester, etc would be completely off the table and that a “win” for the President would be defined as maintaining discretionary spending at an Eisenhower percentage of GDP with the Bush tax cuts for the middle class permanently enshrined in federal law...you would have been considered a total wackjob.

We haven’t won, but we’re playing a weak hand pretty damn well.

That’s not me, but we have to recognize that we’re on a roll here and without acknowledging that we can’t have a solid strategy.

My point is (and I’ll take a complete dismantlement of Obamacare, but it ain’t gonna happen) we need to keep on winning. We’ve got a ton of great scandals to exploit if we’re the Party of Liberty. With that, we can win in 2014, 16 and going forward for a generation, maybe two. If not, the GOP is a footnote.

Hold the line! Do not surrender! The House and the House alone has the constitutional power to win this appropriations fight against an illegally expanding federal government, per James Madison, Federalist 58. The Founders saw this coming and gave we the people the tools to head if off through our elected representatives. This is the people’s fight against unconstitutional government and we can win it as long as we can prevent our reps from surrendering. Obama/Reid cannot get the funds for obamacare if our House refuses to appropriate them!! Period!! No matter how long it takes!! There’s nothing more important to the republic!!
