MANILA In the southern Philippines, at least 55 people have died and more than 65,000 people have fled their homes while scores of hostages remain in the hands of Muslim rebels. Clashes between government forces and members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) have intensified as they entered the seventh day.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines say troops are stepping up their fight in the major port city of Zamboanga against about 200 members of the MNLF.
Armed Forces spokesman, Brigadier General Domingo Tutaan, says the military along with police forces are now carrying out a calibrated offensive. But he did not give details of what the measured tactic entails.
...
Fighting started early Monday morning when the military says it interceded after it learned armed members of an MNLF faction tried to enter Zamboanga to raise a separatist flag at city hall. A faction spokesman has said they wanted to hold a peace rally to drum up support for the creation of an Islamic republic. The military repelled the rebels, who they say took civilians for cover and kept them isolated to five coastal villages on the fringes of Zamboanga.

Would be nice if it was true....
> they wanted to hold a peace rally to drum up support for the creation of an Islamic republic.
Perhaps they should try banning islam in their country and jail anyone promoting it. First, lock up the imams.
“Perhaps they should try banning islam in their country”
I Agree...
We should set the example and do the same in our own country!
Locking up imams and banning Islam and its supporters would create martyrs a la early Christian martyrs. Nothing like martyrdom to inspire. Just a thought.

Nothing to see here. It is just crazed moozlums carrying-out their blood-lusting “religion” (of peace...I might add). Since all cultures are equal, we shouldn’t criticize their desire to murder people, including you and your family. Who are we to judge?
If WHAT was true ?
We always judge. Some call it discerning. We use our God-given brains to decide right from wrong, good from bad, etc.
Every faith, political party and such has its crazy fools. That doesn't mean that murder should be tolerated as it's never right to do wrong.
Just an opinion, though maybe not a popular one.
The whole world should ban Islam.
It is a creation of the Devil.
In the Spring 2011, Issue 79 of Army History Magazine (free online .pdf format), there is a very colorful story about the hard men under General Pershing, who put the Moro in their place. “The violent end of insurgency on Samar”, starting on page 30.

The story is somewhat too large to read online, so I recommend downloading the .pdf, so that you can read it at leisure.
They better keep it on the down low or Lord King Obama will send in his military to support the rebels.
They’ve been at it ever since even before the days of Marcos as my sis in law tells me. Same old BS than Israel and those squatters called Palestinians. There would be a “peace agreement” and the rags would break it.
Goes to show how long this has been a problem in the southern part of the Philippines. The Mohammedans will never be satisfied and the more we cave in to their demands, the worse it gets.
Mohammedans belong to a cult of evil, and adhere to the rantings of a camel-humping pedophile.
There are specific references in the Koran advocating just this - to use a truce to the Muzzie's advantage whenever it is favourable to their side.
No country can survive the influx of these two-timing rats.
The government needs to exterminate every last one of the Mohammedan scum, give them no quarter
Disagree
About time a country banned Islam.
Christianity is banned in Saudi Arabia
The USA should be helping the Phillipines, instead of the Syrian ‘rebels.’
