Not brain dead, she wanted the “harvesting” to proceed and sought to conceal signs of responsiveness, in my opinion.
There are some real ghouls who have attached themselves to organ and tissue donation, I experienced that firsthand when my dad passed away.
DOCTOR: No, you're not!
This is a Catholic hospital, too.
That nurse's brain or soul was dead.

I am positive this happens a lot, there have been other similar articles. This is one reason why I am 100% opposed to organ donation. Not that I think it should be illegal, but I would never check that box myself. There are too many shady characters and decisions in the organ donation system. Very sad that the woman wound up committing suicide later.
Anyone wanting on/off any of my ping lists, freepmail me.
Went there several times during my misspent youth. When I got old enough to know better would drive myself to Millard Fillmore suburban.
You never pass up a chance to act ignorant and take a shot do you?
Brain was working just fine. It's her soul that's dead in a situation like that.
Show me where I’m wrong.
Your story, and Grammy’s remind me of Terry Schiavo. I’m not sure why I percieved medicine as black and white, cut and dried science. Especially after viewing some of the medical shows.
“Im not sure why I percieved medicine as black and white, cut and dried science.”
You’re not alone in this. The architects of Obamacare believe that the practice of medicine can be simplified into specific algorithms (if A, then do B, etc.) and that care can be standardized this way. It can’t, for a variety of very important reasons. Medicine is not an exact science. There’s way too much we don’t know, and there is a ton of variability from patient to patient. Doctors make mistakes, but statisticians can’t fix medicine and prevent mistakes.
I think it’s extremely important for patients to remember that it is disturbingly easy for physicians to miss things and make mistakes. It’s not because they don’t care (most care very much), but is because medicine is not an exact science, and doctors are human beings who make mistakes. That being the case, it’s really important for patients to be very actively involved in their own care, ask a ton of questions, and get second and third opinions when necessary. Just like in government, checks and balances are essential.
Sweetheart I have shown you to be wrong on numerous threads you simply lack the character to admit it. And it is not that you are wrong in this one it is the fact that you never miss an opportunity to take a shot at the Catholic Church. You are Bill Maher in high heels.
Without doubt the best medical advice I’ve seen or heard!
Thanks again for your contribution.
For what it’s worth, I took metmom’s comment simply as an observation of the irony of any religious hospital being this cavalier about someone’s life.
Would you accept a kidney from a loved one if it would save your life?
How about blood? Would you take a donation of blood or plasma from a loved one?
Ed
So you wouldn’t use a pig valve to fix your heart?
Ed
Thank you.
And if it’s that bad in a Catholic hospital, it doesn’t take much imagination to think of what it would be like in a non-Catholic hospital.
Ironically, after I mentioned that I spent some time at Crouse with an infection, someone suggested I consider St. Joe’s next time because of the Catholic pro-life position.
Well, snookums, don’t be so easily offended in the future and you won’t end up reading more into a comment than is there.
You need to get out of the Church of the Perpetually Offended.
Nobody really knows what they'd do in a specific situation. I'd like to give an unequivical "no" but I've never been in a situation to make that decision for myself or a loved one.
As opposed to the one of the perpetually stupid
