Lois Lerner wants full immunity for her testimony

The IRS official at the center of the targeting controversy will testify before the House oversght committee as long as she gets full immunity from prosecution, one of her lawyers said yesterday.

Lois Lerner, the former head of the exempt section of the IRS that targeted conservative groups for extra scrutiny, took the fifth at her previous appearance before the committee right after she declared her innocence.

Republicans on the committee say that her statement of innocence meant that she waived her fifth amendment right to self incrimination and she should testify willingly.

From Politico:

"They can obtain her testimony tomorrow by doing it the easy way ... immunity," William W. Taylor III said in a phone interview. "That's the way to resolve all of this." The comments reflect the hard-line approach Lerner, the former head of the IRS division that scrutinized conservative groups, and her legal team are taking in defending her role in the agency's scandal."

Isn't she too high up for immunity? She's how many steps away from the White House? One? Two?

She doesn't have a lot of wiggle room in her offer to flip someone higher in exchange for immunity.

And naming someone lower is a non-starter.

IF she claims she did nothing wrong, then she did everything right, what is there to prosecute?

Grant her full immunity for her upcoming testimony. When she admits to the wrong-doing, and names names above her, then subpeona the people she names. Down the road, prosecute her for perjury during her first appearnce when, under oath, she stated she did nothing wrong. Those statements would not be covered under the future testimony immunity agreement.

Isn’t this what obama/holder has told her to do? She’ll say she was completely responsible without giving anyone else up and walk away a free and still employed person.

“DON’T GIVE HER IMMUNITY UNTIL YOU KNOW WHAT SHE KNOWS!!”

Exactly.

Absolutely right. Get her to sign a statement contemporaneously with immunity and before she actually testifies. You can’t give her immunity blindly without knowing what she will say and without a signed statement if she changes her mind in testimony.

Congress should simply tell her no immunity, jail her for contempt, and cease any communication with her, say for about a decade or two.

Since Lerner has failed to make a proffer, the author is probably right, she has little to offer. But the committee is not without ammunition either. Besides the possible violations of laws cited, once the element of conspiracy is introduced any number of possible laws might have been broken

I'd be surprised if Lois and her attorney are aware of all information disclosed during interviews with dozens of IRS agents from the lowest levels in Cincy and up the ladder into Wash DC. If I may paraphrase Donald Rumsfeld - It's what you don't know you don't that kills you.

she already screwed the pooch by her self serving statement, now she wants a redo. (and her lawyer is sweating too malpractice)

Put her on the stand immediately if she refuses to testify lock her up for contempt till she does.

Raise your hand if you think Lois Lerner should have to face prison just like any of us would.

Some interesting facts regarding our electorate:

Number of States won by Obama 19

Number of States won by Romney 29

Square miles of land won by Obama 580,000

Square miles of land won by Romney 2,427,000

Population of counties won by Obama 127 million

Population of counties won by Romney 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by Obama 13.2

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by Romney 2.1

This last statistic is really scary!!!!

LOL! Good point. I'm thinkin' this immunity thing over.. If she's not granted immunity, she'll plead the 5th again. She might implicate Jarrett or even 0bama if granted immunity. My sense is that she's dedicated to Zero so it wouldn't help to give her immunity. They're STILL paying her to keep her mouth shut.

I'm curious to hear what the bright minds at FR have to say on this one.

Can Congress rescind her pay? That might get her to talk. At the moment, she’s being bought.

She is a thug wannabe. No immunity. If she tries to plead the fifth, slap her nasty butt into jail and throw away the key. It is past time to deal with these criminal bastards and bitches using the law, the REAL Law not obamaroid almost laws.

Okay. You convinced me. She can be prosecuted or held in criminal contempt if she refuses to speak now because she waived her right to silence?

Congress MUST rescind her pay FIRST or anything after that is pointless.

She made a declarative statement then tried to plead the fifth. Issa, like the idiot he is, let he leave and tried to shut the hearing down. Trey Gowdy spoke up (he was a prosecuting attorney before the elections) and pointed out the foolishness of Issa’s caving in to the obamaroids. Now, if she is reappears before the committee she is bound to answer or be held in contempt. Issa slipped up and revealed his collusion, IMHO.

No matter what she says and how much she lies to congress Obama can absolve her at any time.
The goal here is to get her lies out to fool Congress and take Obama off the table.
As long as she plays by Obama' rules Obama can make everything go away, he has that power.

I would go after those she has direct contact with and make them turn.
The thing about lies is there are so many people involved we need a special prosecutor.
