I wish states could decide about abortion, too, that would be a step in the a consistent direction.

Actually I’d like federal recognition of the unborns’ right to live, but, this decision is inconsistent.

If states can regulate whether two faggots can pretend to be a married man and woman, they should be able to regulate whether or not you can kill your child.

Between abortions and gay marriage, the left will eventually kill themselves off.

We did our jobs in raising our children right. Our children, our children’s children and so on will do the same thing. Love of God and Country is genetic.

Every social issue is owned by the left and geared towards the useful idiots who have yet to realize that the minute the left takes over they will be sent to camps or worse.

The only thing this changes is it removes gay from the protected class. Same way yesterday’s decision removed black from the protected class.

Of course this now explains why the left want to let in 11 million illegals. They have to replenish the stock of Democrat voters.

As feasible as getting rid of public sector Unions.

1. There are already many “fake” heterosexual marriages, not because of the tax laws (see #2, below), but because of employers’ family health insurance benefits.

2. For most married couples (both spouses working), federal tax law penalizes rather than subsidizes marriage.

The next law suit. Kennedy in his opinion used equal protection. The next lawsuit will recognize the right and force the states.

Up until around the civil war, there was only a very limited federal recognition of marriage. Contrary to the puritanical attitudes some display today, common law marriages (shacking up) was pretty common in remote areas where people might not see a minister for years.

In the course of my genealogy research i found lots of my ancestors were in common law marriages which sometimes ended and other times became wedded in God. The government didn’t really make much distinction between the two and doesn’t appear to have gotten involved unless there were property disputes.

The liberals change the criteria based on whatever supports the liberal view of an issue.

So, in the case of abortion, they don’t want states to have any say, because Roe Vs. Wade created a broad federal right to abortion. The federal courts decision is binding on the states, say the liberals there.

But on marriage, the liberals take the opposite position, that states rights are paramount, and that the federal government has no right to define marriage.

Liberals are not known for having any consistent principles. The Defense of Marriage Act case is a prime example, since in that case, they argued that the states have the right to define marriage, not the federal government.

I can just hear the liberals complaining tomorrow. Today they celebrate the marriage ruling. Tomorrow they will complain that we have a “patchwork quilt” of state marriage laws, in which most states still do not recognize homosexual marriage. Nothing in the court case compels a state to do so. So the liberals will have a new set of things to bitch about.

If the gay lobby thinks that military benefits will be their proverbial “ pot of gold” at the end of their collective rainbow, they are sadly mistaken.

My family lived it for 13 years and got the t-shirt. While we have no regrets about our military adventures, benefits are being cut and quality of life is getting poorer all the time... Military health care is no picnic at the moment ( oh the stories I can tell) and military housing is hardly a five star resort life -style.
Try a 1300 square foot concrete duplex built 50 years ago for six people with old plumbing that floods your entire living space on a regular basis, not too mention the frequent and unscheduled power outages... the list goes on and on.

Mark my words once the euphoria of “equality” has subsided the reality will not be what was hoped for.

The kings have made a political ruling. Surely you don’t expect the kings to rule from principles? /s

I really don’t get their dependence on the 5th Amendment..

All it says is, they can’t take our property without DUE PROCESS..

I’m no lawyer, but... my understanding of “due process” has always been that the taking must be according to laws passed by elected representatives... It never meant we all have to be treated EQUALLY by all laws.

Under this definition.... how can they justify taxing ANY of us at DIFFERENT rates? Isn’t this a jsutification for a Flat Tax??

Feasible? How CONSTITUTIONAL are they to begin with?! Broke Ponzi schemes..IE: NO MORE $$$. The Fed. is already into hock by $110TRILLION+ (unfunded liabilities = broken promises). Suck it up buttercup, there’s no $$ there.

Damn, it’s sad to see the bashing of (L) already in this thread but when a ‘conservative’ spouts this....nary a peep from the same people.

The ruling is correct. Get gov’t out of the marriage biz; it has NO right to define marriage, but it does for Civil Unions (like any other contract)

"The problem the supporters of prop 8 had was that their own elected government officials ( governor, sec of state etc.) refused to defend the law that it’s citizens voted for...and the SCOTUS decided that the individual citizens did not have standing in federal court to argue for a bill that their own state government did not support"

This is not correct. The USSC ruled the Ninth Circuit (the appeal of who's ruling is how this got to the USSC), was judged to have had no jurisdiction to render a decision in this case, as it's a State issue. Hence, it goes back to the State Court decision, which struck down the amendment. Perfectly sound decision, and why Roberts AND SCALIA ruled as they did.

It will be interesting to see if the Dems try to include this into the Rubio-Schumer amnesty bill? For Rubio, it was supposed to be a deal breaker. Now the amnesty supporters must decide if gay illegal aliens can sponsor their gay spouses to join them.

"Equal Liberty" should be the new slogan of gun owners and their organizations (NRA, GOA, etc).

The Equal Liberty to purchase/posess an AR-15 in Texas or Connecticut.

The Equal Liberty to conceal carry a hand gun in Newtown or New York City.

The Equal Liberty to transport one's firearms and (hollow point) ammunition through Pennsylvania or New Jersey.
