Senate kills John Thune’s border-fence amendment — with help from Rubio and McCain

You know the deal. Every amendment that adds significant border security to the Gang of Eight bill threatens to scare Democratic votes away, and Rubio, McCain, Graham, and Flake have decided that they’d rather have the bad bill they wrote pass than no bill at all. Four votes against the fence, just as Conn Carroll predicted this morning:

Senators on Tuesday rejected building the 700 miles of double-tier border fencing Congress authorized just seven years ago, with a majority of the Senate saying they didn’t want to delay granting illegal immigrants legal status while the fence was being built.

The 54-39 vote to reject the fence shows the core of the immigration deal is holding. The vote broke mostly along party lines, though five Republicans, including Sen. Marco Rubio and the rest of the bill’s authors, voted against the fence, and two Democrats voted for it.

Republicans had offered the fence as a way to build the confidence of voters skeptical that the government will enforce its laws, but opponents said building more fencing is costly, would take too long, and shouldn’t be dictated by Washington.

“I think we should leave that to the best judgment of the Border Patrol,” said Sen. John McCain, one of the eight senators who wrote the immigration bill.

That’s the same John McCain who grumbled in early 2007 about having to “build the goddamned fence,” then quickly metamorphosed into a kinda sorta border hawk in time for the 2008 campaign, then hung onto his phony border-security cred to get elected to another Senate term in 2010, and who now has safely reverted to the amnesty shill he always was at heart. That’s one of the glories of the current reform process — how open and honest everyone involved is.....

Any question as to which side Rubio is on?

No question from me. Epic fail from Florida conservative groups in selecting this guy to replace Mel Martinez AFTER Martinez "betrayed" them on amnesty. Anyone who claimed Rubio was the "real deal" should hang their head in shame. He's slicker than Martinez but he "fooled them" because they let themselves be fooled.

Always the case, reference the cultists.

I used to be a big fan of the talk radio club up to mid GWB maybe 2005, I used to repeat what they said to others I know as if it was brilliance, which I believed it might be.

But I notice that they build up these Republican public figures : GWB, Ryan, Rubio, the Momma-bear(REF POTUS FNC run 2011) as heroes and then their dribble gets BELIEVED repeated here until....it always goes bad.

I think they are playing on a hunger for a conservative messiah who will call out Obama and Dems with a few names and then the Reaganite voters will appear again after 20 years of hibernation and Dems will be swept out of office much like Moses parted the Red Seas.

But in the real world those buying it over and over get conned because this is the real world not that warm happy beautiful dream we occasionally have.

I think this next election is going to depend the shape of nation economically.....if it’s in good shape the Demorats will win....if it’s in bad shape the Demorats will still win because they’ll use it as a means of taking us into the Global Governance.

Otherwise....Both parties have merged so much there isn’t anyone to run against them.

I heard Hannity today defending his pal Rubio about this vote. He claims that Rubio voted against the fence amendment because “he wants it to be stronger.”

Sean, you’ve chained yourself to a sinking ship and don’t even see it.

In the case of amnesty you got Hispanic voters but you also got the $$$ GOP base big businesses who wrote the Senate amnesty bill with Dems behind closed doors.

Unlike many of the conspiracy theories that get posted around here a member of Chamber of Commerce was on MSNBC Chris Hayes last night and said that every Republican he knows ‘supports the Senate immigration reform bill’,
and when Hayes showed him a video of the anti-amnesty protest and asked him to explain it that same CofC guy said that they are just a few duped crackpots.

That is the GOP $$$ talking. Both sides work together for $$$. Like Hitler and Stalin

Right SJB ??

Any question as to which side Rubio is on?

Only in the heads of our illustrious talk radio giants, who still seem to be giving the turncoat the benefit of the doubt. As if there were still any doubt.

I think we all know the “Stronghold” in Washington isn’t favorable to this nation’s best interests nor it’s true Citizens.

This immigration bill and all the other measures that have been taken, pushed, and rammed down our throats have one thing in mind...the Globalist Agenda and All of Washington is fully on board. Their job is to get us on board...as they see it...even if it means at times they give us a show to occupy us, while they position the revenues of this nation to go abroad where ever the IMF and others deem it should go....til we are broke, fallen and used up.

Then they’ll all move to their villas overseas.

Rubio’s single reason for being a darling of some republicans is that he is a “person of color”.

The US has gone into racial politics, pure and simple.

All this back and forth on border security is a ruse anyway. Its to provide cover to the Republicans so they can pass an immigration bill in the House. Any border security that is added to the final bill, after a tooth-n-nail, titanic battle of kabuki theatre, will be ignored just like all our current immigration laws are interned. ANY comprehensive immigration bill is Amnesty and Amnesty is what the Republicrat/Dumbocan Globalists want.

THIS.

I think you mean ‘is that he can get votes from people of color’.

Rubio looks pretty white to me, which makes me skeptical of his magic appeal in that regard. No doubt he would go over better with them than Romney did, but who couldnt?

.....add-ons to protect Americans and US sovereignity (if any), will be ignored as are our current immigration laws.....comprehensive immigration reform is Amnesty......and Amnesty is what the Republicrat/Dumbocan Globalists want.

The Count got that right. Vote-crazed Dems and deranged, legacy-driven Ohaha are in collusion w/ these hellholes, making deals for aye votes in exchange for hyphenate votes at the ballot box. O will x-out any provisions that interfere w/ his plans.

As I posted earlier:.....why do we taxpayers have to worry about border security AND foot the bills for it?

When does Mexico step up to the plate? After all, they are the ones who will be pocketing zillions in US tax dollars (foreign aid and other giveaways power-crazed Ohaha can dream up). Vote-crazed Dems are gonna turn on the tax tap full force.

LYING IN WAIT The "pressure groups" Mexico threw over the border are lying in wait----conniving to exchange hyphenate votes for tax dollars.

Taxpayers demand oil-rich Mexico vamoose-o the cantinas and the senoritas, and police their own borders.

Harry Reid hollers..” We’ll get this done now or never, get at it!”....and the Republicans cower saying,...”I hear ya”, then they scammer to come up with something fast!

Reid puts pressure on them and they listen...it doesn’t need to be done now.
