Skip to comments.Senate kills John Thune’s border-fence amendment — with help from Rubio and McCain

You know the deal. Every amendment that adds significant border security to the Gang of Eight bill threatens to scare Democratic votes away, and Rubio, McCain, Graham, and Flake have decided that theyd rather have the bad bill they wrote pass than no bill at all. Four votes against the fence, just as Conn Carroll predicted this morning:
Senators on Tuesday rejected building the 700 miles of double-tier border fencing Congress authorized just seven years ago, with a majority of the Senate saying they didnt want to delay granting illegal immigrants legal status while the fence was being built.
The 54-39 vote to reject the fence shows the core of the immigration deal is holding. The vote broke mostly along party lines, though five Republicans, including Sen. Marco Rubio and the rest of the bills authors, voted against the fence, and two Democrats voted for it.
Republicans had offered the fence as a way to build the confidence of voters skeptical that the government will enforce its laws, but opponents said building more fencing is costly, would take too long, and shouldnt be dictated by Washington.
I think we should leave that to the best judgment of the Border Patrol, said Sen. John McCain, one of the eight senators who wrote the immigration bill.
Thats the same John McCain who grumbled in early 2007 about having to build the goddamned fence, then quickly metamorphosed into a kinda sorta border hawk in time for the 2008 campaign, then hung onto his phony border-security cred to get elected to another Senate term in 2010, and who now has safely reverted to the amnesty shill he always was at heart. Thats one of the glories of the current reform process how open and honest everyone involved is.....

Of course...Mc STAIN!
I guess Mccain is grooming Rubio to take his traitor place once God sends him to Hades
KILL this BILL!
Rubio has pulled the trigger on his own gun as far as I am concerned
Looks that way.
Oh....we can't do that; Union Labor has to be used.....
And...the money people who need the labor that open borders provides, AND, the Votes that these Illegals can give to the Dem's makes Amnesty URGENT for the 2014 Elections, as a guarantee of Majority in both Houses of Congress, and the Presidency again in 2016 for the Dem's.
The first posts for the border fence should be made from recycled gallows timbers.
Rubio has been sniffing McCain’s vapors. Given who McCain is, and who Rubio has apparently decided to be, it would be silly to think Republicans would ask Democrats to compromise on something.
...Flake send him back to the pig farm.... the Snowflake Pig Farm, of course....
All this back and forth on border security is a ruse anyway. Its to provide cover to the Republicans so they can pass an immigration bill in the House. Any border security that is added to the final bill, after a tooth-n-nail, titanic battle of kabuki theatre, will be ignored just like all our current immigration laws are interned. ANY comprehensive immigration bill is Amnesty and Amnesty is what the Republicrat/Dumbocan Globalists want.
Some of them have been here 20 years, why can’t they wait another year?
He couldn't care less.
The lesson of the last 2 election cycles is if you want the Republican Presidential nomination you have to get the blessing of the GOPe/RINO establishment. It matters not one iota what the base thinks of you.
The fence has been designed, budgeted for and vendors already selected. That was done 7 years ago.
You know this is crap because no one is asking them why it will take so long.
Kill the farm subsidy and the fence is paid for in full.
they are all dead’to me save Cruz.
if they secure the border they can’t have a working north american union. this is why bush did nothing, why obama does nmothing, why these assclowns do nothing.
They must have gotten a promise of future prominence in the New World Order. :)
Help with a knife in their hand.
It didn’t take long for Rubio to flame out.
