Exactly right....potassium & sodium work yin and yang with each other so a good way to offset higher sodium intake is to up your potassium intake. And, again, drop the table salt and go with UNREFINED. And up the magnesium (glycinate, malate) to 800 or so mgs

Yeah, a lot of the old gaffers I’ve know could be plenty salty right up to their death...
C’mon people, somethin’s gotta kill ya.
When I was a little fella, most of the old folks in my family died of “old age”. It wasn’t til I was well into my teens that I learned it was cirrhosis of the liver and emphysema that took them out.

I agreed with vendome that Bragg’s tastes good if you want to switch from regular soy but I totally agree with you that there is something completely different that Japanese get in abundance and we do not; iodine.
Our RDA in the US is 150mcg, paltry at best, and only suitable to keep from getting goiter. The Japanese get on average 40-50mg per day. A HUGE influx. The incidence of cancer related death is so low in Japan and I contend it is due to iodine as iodine facilitates what’s called apoptosis, which is the natural death of abnormal cells. Our thyroid holds the most iodine but the reproductive organs come in 2nd. All of our cells need iodine and I contend you will NOT get cancer if consuming enough iodine.

I do not believe these people — they have an agenda which is not truth.

correct, they refine out all the good minerals in REAL salt and then add in anti-caking and bleaching chemicals as well as a tiny amount of iodine.
You need iodine but in large amounts and a separate supplement.

There you go! We need to eat a reasonable amount of food, drink plenty of water, and get off the couch until we die.

Buy a Sodastream maker and make your own soda from syrup and water that you fizz yourself.
I'll look into it. Thanks for the info.

While youre at it, buy Braggs apple cider vinegar too. Its excellent for your health.
I've been using Bragg's ACV for a few years. I'd seen the Bragg's Liquid Aminos at the health food store, but overlooked that it's a good sub for soy sauce. Thanks.

[...drink plenty of water...]
This is the key element, most people don’t drink enough plain old water to create a healthy balance with salt.
I fill a container that holds a half gallon of water to make sure I drink it all for the day.
Your urine will tell you if you are well hydrated...very little color indicates you are drinking enough water, dark yellow...drink more water.

a certain Freeper did stop in at Whole Foods and did find an excellent soy sauce replacement that has only 100 milligrams of sodium and tastes just like soy sauce.
For those avoiding soy sauce because of the soy: coconut aminos are an excellent substitute. I have no idea how much sodium it has (honestly, the sodium-is-bad meme is not applicable for most people).

I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiener".
I've always thought Demolition Man was great social commentary !

We mix RealSalt with Potassium Chloride (natural, not refined) 50:50 for our salt usage. We are not concerned about our salt intake.
Best way to get magnesium is transdermally, using Magnesium Chloride as a soaking salt in the bathtub. Also as a saturated solution of Mag Chloride applied topically.
Our magnesium chloride comes from the vast natural seabed known as the ancient Zechstein Sea and comes to us from Holland.

Nearly every older adult in my part of the country (flyover country) exhibited goiters (grossly enlarged thyroid glands) due to lack of availability of seafood until they started adding iodine to salt.
If these zealots succeed in banning or restricting salt and ban salt shakers as "assault weapons", there will be a resurgence of this malady.
