Tebow's Big Fumble: Soon, the ball will be thrown to each of us.
Christianity Today ^ | 2/22/13 | R. Albert Mohler, Jr.

Posted on 02/25/2013 8:31:53 AM PST by rhema

[ . . . ] No statement short of celebrating and affirming the normalization of homosexuality will be found acceptable to those now demanding an answer. Writing for Yahoo! Sports, Jay Busbee stated what is now obvious: "Whatever the reason for his cancellation, Tebow is fast approaching the point where he'll need to make more definitive stands on his own. . . . He has the power and potential to be an influential voice for his religion, but he'll need to decide how much of that religion he wishes to demonstrate."

Now, take out Tebow's name and insert your own. The massive moral shift taking shape around us is fast eliminating any neutral ground on this issue. Those celebrating the moral normalization of homosexuality will demand an answer from us all. Giglio and Tebow withdrew from controversial appearances, but they will not evade the demand to answer the fundamental question, and any Christian who will not join the moral revolution will be marginalized as a moral outlier in the larger society.

Evangelical Christians are now called upon to think strategically about what it means to speak truthfully and lovingly to a society that increasingly sees us as the moral outlaws. Clearly, we must watch our speech carefully, measuring every word for truth and tone and avoiding incendiary sound bites. We must also guard our hearts toward the persistent temptation towards self-righteousness. But, at the same time, even the most humble statement of biblical truth can now be turned into a sound bite described as hate speech and a refusal to affirm the normalization of homosexuality is turned into repulsive intolerance. . . . abandoning the truth of God's Word is not an option. We deny the gospel if we deny the sinfulness of sin. That sin. Every sin. Our sin.

measuring every word for truth and tone and avoiding incendiary sound bites.

___

"Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate." - Matthew 23:33-38

___

I can think of one man who wasn't afraid of 'incendiary sound bites'.

IMHO, it looks crummy for Tebow to have withdrawn. The church and its pastor has been smeared in the media, and he shys away?

Very disappointing.

" Clearly, we must watch our speech carefully, measuring every word for truth and tone and avoiding incendiary sound bites"

OK.

I'll be really careful about how I say this.

In the most charitable non-hostile sense of these loving words, two Queers packin' fudge isn't marriage. Never was, never will be.

You guys, guyettes, gals and galsters wanna play weird with your private parts, nobody's stopping you.

But it'll be a cold day in hell before we pay for it, respect it or shed a tear because you went and got yourself some dread disease that was 100% avoidable.

We love all of you and hope that you find repentance and forgiveness in Jesus. Till then, go prance fancy somewhere else.

(One other thing. Hands off the kids.)

I can’t speak for why he withdrew, but I bet it has less to do with the HomoSatans than it does with the preachers slamming other religions.

Islamic names like Achmed and Mohammed, will be appropriately discounted!

Per 1 article I read, Tebow had asked to reschedule it so this truly is a non story!

http://clashdaily.com/2013/02/has-tim-tebow-really-caved/#ixzz2LquLvlbs

Maybe we could STOP the MISINFORMATION and acting like the Left does by spreading unfounded stories.
Oh onedoug, the above comment was not directed at you, I just used you to post my comment :)

I just don’t use the word “gay” when referring to them. I use a more explicit, but accurate word.

I guess I am not clear on why this church was “controversial”. Did they advocate stoning gays to death, or showing up at military funerals like those Kansas whackjobs?

If all they did was preach the Biblical view of homosexuality, then yes, Tebow made a huge mistake. He chose his career over his faith.

Nobody answered these questions better than Christ himself, so when the question is asked of me, I would just refer them to John 8:1-11.

I’m not a big fan of big corporatized “mega-churches” like 1st Baptist Dallas, and going for big name athletes is the most egregious marketing ploy that is anathema to the real gospel. But the reasoning for his withdrawal are tragic.

Truly, the ball will be passed to all of us sooner than we think. If you think you are immune, you are terminally naive.

TT cannot serve God the way he has up to this point and play football in the NFL.
Come to think of it the NFL managed to “shut down” TT last year and will likely continue to do so

Be sure that this about face by Tebow benefits absolutely no one, not even Tebow - except the homosexual lobby. They are heartily celebrating this victory with shouting and plans for more conquests.

And it is the greatest of conquests when they can get someone like Tebow to do their bidding.

What is the goal?

IF homosexuals in Hollywood can make films mocking Jesus and Christianity ( the HOST of the Academy Awards is the creator of “FAMILY GUY” a cartoon that mocks Jesus and Christianity constantly) why must Christians remain SILENT?

BEST post I have ever read on the subject :

Making sin legal will never make it right.

Mankind’s laws are flawed; God’s are not.

“They are heartily celebrating this victory with shouting and plans for more conquests”

It’s better to rule in Hell than serve in Heaven?

A really stupid end game.

They've been on a roll like a runaway steamroller ever since they successfully forced Laura Schlesinger off of TV.

Two Sundays ago, at the end of his sermon, my pastor used the word “gay” and, before I could stop myself, in front of the whole congregation I said, “Homosexual, there is nothing gay about it”.

He actually corrected himself.
