After Bankrupting Hostess, Union Workers Rake In The Federal Dough

Labor: Who says intransigence doesn't pay? After driving Hostess out of business by refusing to negotiate, union bakers have been rewarded by the White House with Trade Adjustment Assistance. It's all the foreigners' fault.

Politics: Who says intransigence doesn't pay? After driving Hostess out of business by refusing to negotiate, the White House has decided to reward the union bakers with Trade Adjustment Assistence, blaming foreigners. What a sweet deal.

...

the AFL-CIO-affiliated Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers & Grain Millers International (BCTGM). It refused to deal, taking the entire company, including fellow workers, down with it.

Turns out the union knew exactly what it was doing.

This week, the Labor Department decided to shower Hostess workers with Trade Adjustment Assistance, a multibillion-dollar pork barrel program that was beefed up as a bone to Democrats, who were blocking passage of three free-trade treaties in Congress in 2012.

TAA is a lavish program doled out by the Labor Department for laid-off workers who've lost their jobs due to "global trade."

It provides worker retraining due to the supposed evils of free trade — plus moving expenses, baby-sitting expenses and as much as two years of unemployment pay. If a worker ends up making less than his union salary afterward, Uncle Sam spots the worker for 50% of the supposed lost wages in a "free" subsidy.

...

It's a reward for those who refuse to negotiate, and a sop to the manipulative unions that are most adept at gaming the system.

Seeing as how foreign competition had NOTHING to do with the Hostess bankruptcy and EVERYTHING to do with greedy union morons, I hope there will be 27 law suits filed against this egregious waste of our taxpayers dollars by Tuesday.

There is a solution to this. Good Americans should never hire a former Hostess union employee. It is also a good rule never to hire a liberal, period.

And begin moving operations to right-to-work states.

And make sure your non-union employees always have better deals than the union employees.

Bingo. Obama screeches that planes will fall out of the sky if sequestration occurs, but his labor department will still be paying union thugs to bankrupt iconic American companies.

if you’re hiring anyone that supports America’s political left, you’re doing a disservice to your company or corporation

Noting that union membership in the private sector is down to 5% of the workforce the amount of money at risk in such deals is MINISCULE.

The owners were primarily leftists and they took a major haircut in this second round of banruptcy.

All of that proves that leftwingtards are not very good at organizing effective unions or companies.

Where are our toothless “conservative” Congress critters when this looting of our tax money is taking place? This strike had absolutely nothing to do with foreign competition and the union parasites should not get a dime while they are looking for another host to suck dry.

Even if someone had "standing" to file them, by the time the suits wended their way through Obama-packed courts the money would have been spent long ago and the unionistas would be retired on lavish pensions.

Is it legal under current law to discriminate based on political affiliation?

I am not sure, but I think there is a strong correlation between sound thought, logic, sound reasoning and political affiliation. There is no reason to ask a person about their political affiliation. It is easy to determine indirectly though good interview questions and past employment history.

For instance, I would never hire someone that worked for the National Organization for Women (NOW). I really don't care about their excuses or conservative conversion that they may have had. There is something fundamentally wrong with a candidate with that work history.
