NY POST ^ | 1/11/13 | Jamie Schram

Posted on 01/11/2013 5:20:41 AM PST by Liz

David Villalobos jumped from the Bronx Zoo monorail into a tiger’s den, and is lapping up the attention. “This is a good thing; maybe I can make some money,” Villalobos told workout buddies at the Westchester gym. He's due in Bronx Criminal Court on trespassing charges, and is worried about losing his real-estate license.

Border-crossers think US taxpayers are financially responsible for all the stupid choices the idiots chose to make.

One of my least favorite parts of the Constitution is the ban against cruel and unusual punishments. There are certain situations where I think it’s just called for.

Yeah——the judge ruling to throw him back into the tiger cage would be too cruel.

This guy may have been a “border crosser” but his attitude about hitting the litigation jackpot for his own bad behaviour is 100% American. We’ve become a nation of lazy layabouts looking for something for nothing. I could easily imagine a US citizen wanting to bring the same lawsuit.

Agreed. But the judge could levy a stiff fine on whomever got him out of the cage.

True-—but the difference is that border-crossers keep telling us they are totally innocent-—just sneaking over the border to do the menial jobs Americans won’t do.

Is there any indication he’s a “border-crosser”? I didn’t see anything in a Google search.

Here is the quote from the article:
“This is a good thing that happened; maybe I can make some money, write a book,” jumper David Villalobos told workout buddies yesterday at the Westchester gym where he’s doing physical therapy after his Sept. 21 leap into a tiger enclosure at the zoo.

The bolded part is missing from your "quote" of the article.

And it also changes the meaning of the article, since it is clear from the article that he is NOT talking about taxpayers paying for his mistake, he is talking about cashing in on the fame of being the idiot who jumped into a Lion's den.

And whether you agree or disagree with the notion of a society where we reward idiots with book deals and movie rights, that has nothing to do with taxpayers.

The only question is whether they updated the article or not, or if you just missed those three words that change the meaning. There's nothing in the article that suggests it was edited.

but his attitude about hitting the litigation jackpot for his own bad behaviour is 100% American.

That is not what the article said. He wants to get a book deal. He wants to cash in on his fame, not by a lawsuit. At least according to the article.

And where does your information come to suggest he is a “border-crosser”? I can’t find any internet references to him being an illegal alien.

I can’t find any reference either, although I presume somewhere someone has found something.

The article also makes it clear that he wants to cash in on his fame, it says nothing about him thinking about suing anybody.

And the article notes he has been charged with a crime, so he will be “paying” or at least there is that possibility.

He wants to get a book deal.

Charles, as you of all people should well know, this literary offering would be supremely redundant. Been done. Late Victorian Classic, actually.
