The Democrats' Big Problem
The American Thinker ^ | November 24, 2012 | Bruce Walker

Posted on 11/24/2012 12:38:17 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

The left's post-election celebrations are wholly unwarranted.

Consider..................................

In fact, every other Republican seat is in a state which Romney carried handily, while four other Democrat seats -- in New Hampshire, Virginia, Iowa, and Colorado -- came from states in which Romney ran close to Obama. That translates in 2014 into gains, and very likely gains which will translate into a Republican Senate majority. That very fact -- because Senate Democrats can do the math -- means that Harry Reid's plan to make filibusters harder will almost certainly fail: in two years, and perhaps for years thereafter, Republicans may control the Senate.

The House of Representatives was held, and with a clear working majority. This also, likely, is the best shape Democrats will be in in the House for quite a while. The second midterm has uniformly been bad or outright disastrous for the political party which controls the White House. In the elections in 1918, 1942, 1958, 1974, 1986, and 2006, the party holding the White House lost seats (often a lot of seats) in the House. The 1998 Clinton midterm, in a time of prosperity and an impeachment which the gutless Republican Senate punted on, was the single exception to the rule: Democrats gained three seats.

Worse for Democrats, Republicans now control more governorships than before the 2012 election, and these Republican governors are showing a lot of fight on issues like medical exchanges on ObamaCare, Right to Work, voter-identification laws, and tax reform. In a strong Republican 1914-style election, there will be more Republican governors, not fewer, after the midterm.

Even more troubling for Democrats,................ That means that Democrats control only 40 of the 99 state legislative chambers..................

The Republican Party/GOP is dead to this conservative voter... When Obama and Boehner stand side by side and announce their Grand Compromise has been reached, after 40 years of support for them the Republicans will be dead to me, too.

Synopsis of the article = the 2012 election? There must be a pony in there somewhere

...great article - I was as guilty as any conservative of wishful thinking for 2012 - but the reality was

1) Romney was a weaker candidate than I led myself to believe

2) The fall 2008 financial meltdown and middle east adventures damaged the GOP brand more than I thought

3) the 2010 mid-term results actually helped Obama in some ways - this paired with the domestic energy boom gave the US economy just enough life to let an encumbent squeak by

where Obama won hundreds of precincts with 100% of the vote.

He did. In Philly those were divisions (similar to precincts). Here are the Cleveland precincts: http://boe.cuyahogacounty.us/pdf_boe/en-US/ElectionResults2012/11062012UnofficialResultsbyPrecinct.HTM But there were thousands of all-black precincts where the vote was lopsided (e.g. 400 to 10 or less). To have Romney get zero votes or just one or two votes is not too surprising given that there were thousands of precincts where voting for Obama was essentially mandatory.

In other words they tried to get perfect Obama scores thousands of times, roughly 400 voters at a time. Most of the time they failed, someone pressed Romney by accident (even though the machine is dirt simple) or someone actually didn't like Obama. But sometimes (a few percent of the time) they succeeded in getting perfect Obama scores. It is likely that in many cases there were no R observers and the people who might vote for Romney either were not allowed to vote or were coached. But 99% of those inner city black were going to vote for Obama no matter what.

but Republicans (many on this board included) have been as guilty of bashing President Bush as was the media

Correct.

It is the left's #1 goal to divide their opponents and they must really be delighted that it is so easy for them.

I find it tragic the back-stabbing Pres. Bush has had to endure from people like those on FR. Bush is SO responsible for our safety today, stood irresolutely for pro-life issues, juiced the economy for years and he has to endure this kind of treatment.

It's really ugly.

One thing that liberals understand but conservatives don't is that to win elections you have to be united. Look at how they rallied around Clinton, flawed (by normal standards of decency) as he was. There were many on the far left who were (are) disappointed by Oblunder, but when the chips were down they voted for him. You didn't hear them pouting about staying home, or leaving the top of the ballot blank, or taking their ball and running away home to Mommy, or throwing away their vote on some quixotic minor party candidate. They voted for their guy and they won. Sure, Romney may not have been the ideal candidate, nor was GW Bush, but cripes, they are a darned sight better than anybody on the other side. In politics it is often the case that you can't always get what you want, a perfect candidate who is all things to all people. But you sure aren't going to advance any kind of political agenda if you keep losing elections. We've got to get candidates who match our ideals in as many ways as possible, but if we want to have any kind of influence on the national debate, we've got to run candidates who are smart, won't say STUPID things in a campaign, and who will beat the crap out of their opponents when crunch time comes.

President Bush was not perfect and I did not agree with all that he did, but Republicans (many on this board included) have been as guilty of bashing President Bush as was the media

There is WAY too much of a purist strain on our side. People tend to get euphoric about a person, then when one flaw is exposed they drop him/her like a hot potato.

No one on earth can live up to those standards and the MSM will always always find that one flaw that kills our candidates (and delight in doing so).

The only problem the Democrats have is that they have to wait two years to win back the House.

Bear in mind that everything that goes wrong until then will be blamed on the Republican controlled House, not Obama or Reid.

If we couldn't win in 2012 against failures (our definition, not theirs) like Obama and the Democrat controlled Senate, it will never happen.

All the talk about how the “new Media” will help Republicans while the “old Media” is dying on the vine is nothing more than wishful thinking. The Nightly News propaganda machine gets an audience of 50 Million Useful Idiots, while the one Cable outfit that has some sense of fair reporting gets under 3 Million.

We have just witnessed a complete dismantling of common sense. The Electorate can be bought off with the spoils stolen from the Rich and borrowed money to fill in the void.

Benghazi is just a word, the National Debt is just a “short term problem” because Lord Obama said so, the dismantling of the Military is no big deal because the U.N. will take care of everything and Unemployment does not mean a loss of income because the Checks will show up on time and the Government will buy you your food. Not good enough. go for Disability, just like everyone else does.

The American Dream is just that, a dream. The People have spoken and they fulfilled the Founders worst nightmare.

I hear you. As much as people on FR want to bring up Reagan, I'm guessing that a significant number of FReepers would consider him a “RINO”. The liberals understand that Step One in advancing a political agenda is to gain power and hold it as long as you can. They don't run perfect (from their viewpoint) candidates all the time, but they sure as hell vote for them anyway, and that gains yardage for their side. That is a concept that seems to be beyond the understanding of many conservatives. They'd rather lose and go home than win and get most of what they want with a less-than-perfect candidate.

“means that Harry Reid’s plan to make filibusters harder will almost certainly fail: in two years, and perhaps for years thereafter, Republicans may control...”

Harry Reid will make them harder, then if the republicans win in 2 years, he will simply rescind the rule during the lame duck.

The Democrats’ Big Problem>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Its simple really. 40% of democrats are fasists/Utopians.
The end justifies the means, and eff the Constitution.

The other 60% of democrats are simply ignorant and will lock step follow just about anyone who sounds cool to them.

And so the entire Dem party are simply cannon fodder for a fascist movement led by Obama , bent on the destruction of America and its economy.

The Democrats as we knew them actually no longer exist. Thas their BIG problem.

Good read about Obama and his fascism:

Massive election fraud messed up this election. Since the R party is ignoring it (Stockholm Syndrome?), guaranteed there will be even more next time. Can’t count on winning elections, esp. in states wherein Dems control the election officers of that state.

The Dems have a BIG problem. There is an end point.
The funding for all of these give away programs will run out.

The parasitic Dem/fascists will kill their host, the economy of the UNited States......no more income for
entitlement programs and handouts.

This is a huge problem, and Obama means to continue his destruction of the US economy, as will be seen by the way Obama and his cadre of executive fascists approach the so called fiscal cliff problem. The will do everything they can to further destroy the economy. The last thing Obama wants is to see a vibrant recovery from the recession, he wants a nation buried by debt, and a destroyed economy that cannot generate sufficient tax revenue.

Abroad Obama seeks to create a massive war in the middle east and has weakened America so much that we cannot assist Israel or other allies or now former allies in the region. So Obama will resort to the UN peace keeping forces.

Obama wants epic FAIL for America, and the MSM will support every epic FAIL initiative.

This is a Big Problem for the Dems. They just haven’t figured it out yet. Obama is the last man they should be lock step following.

I was thinking last night - it’s crystal clear that 0bastard’s purpose and of course his handlers - to weaken, impoverish and actually destroy the USA; and empower, enrich and embolden all Moslem and Communist countries. Reshape the world, “The Post-American World”. It’s really quite simple.

“It is time to start outing reporters and television personalities for their adulteries, their hypocritical closet homosexuality, their gambling, their excessive drinking, their illicit drug use, their tax cheating. Put the fear of God in them.”

i think you are right on the money. we need to put the MSM talking heads on the defensive so that they will become the news headline, and perhaps their influence might start to wane a little in the eyes of the slobbering public who only get their understanding of what’s going on in the world from these propagandists.
