The GOP is undergoing the type of re-examination that occurs whenever a party loses. That useful exercise should be guided by facts. Here is some of what we know.
The media's postelection narrative is that Democrats won because of a demographic shift. There is some truth to that, but a more accurate description is that Democrats won in a smaller turnout by getting out more of their vote.
Tactically, Republicans must rigorously re-examine their "72-hour" ground game and reverse-engineer the Democratic get-out-the-vote effort in order to copy what works.
Strategically, Republicans will need to frame economic issues to better resonate with middle-class families.
Republicans need not jettison their principles. But they must avoid appearing judgmental and callous on social issues. Offensive comments about rape by GOP Senate candidates in Missouri and Indiana gave the media an excuse to put social issues at the election's center in a way that badly hurt the entire party, as well as costing Republicans two Senate seats.

I know it’s everyones hearts desire right now to castigate Carl Rove but what he’s saying here is right.
Let me translate into non Turd Blossom language we all can understand:
1,GOTV
2. Don’t change our principles but sell them better
3. When you get hit, fight back
4. Don’t shoot yourself in the foot
Who disagrees with the above?
1. Project ORCA was an abject failure. Sorry Ann, but I doubt it’s the first time Mitt muffed something.
2. We cannot depend on frustrated liberals accidently tuning into Rush or that banging idiot Hannity to bring the powerful positive message of Conservatism to votes of all demographics.
3. “Bush Lied, People Died” was when this crap started. I was ashamed then that Bush didn’t fight back, and Mr. Rove is doubtless the reason. OK, we all screw up and we all learn from our mistakes. Rove gets it now, things have changed and we must challenge every time we get attacked.
4. Mourdock and Akin deserved to lose. If you can’t control your mouth I don’t want you anywhere near the US Congress. We need better candidates.
I blame the GOP for installing America’s first dictator.
My advice for Romney was to lose the high priced consultants and start listening to the conservatives who didn’t much like him.
It wouldn’t have been comfortable but it would have been honest
Ya know, Karl....you’re not a bad guy, and certainly not stupid. Really.
However, you got your ass handed to you, and this is your chosen profession.
Lightning doesn’t always strike twice, Karl. You now remind me of the 40-something, former high school quarterback who once won The Big Game; always trying to relive the glory days (God, how I’m trying like all hell to avoid sounding like Springsteen here).
Your version of the old GOP just died its own natural death. You lost; WE didn’t lose. You, and the “traditional” GOP elitists had the floor mopped with your arrogant selves.
You stiffed the Tea Party; you stiffed Palin and others at the Republican National Convention. You thumbed your up-turned noses at grassroots conservatives.
Go write a book and retire, Karl. You’re history.
How can a serious candidate for senate not be ready to hit that question out of the ballpark?
As for demographics, we have a serious problem.
Hey! Rino Rove!!
I’m sitting here in Pennsylvania, with Bob “CANDYMAN” Asher as my GOP lead.
A bigger ESTABLISHMENT PUBBIED YOU CAN’T FIND!!
Take it from me, we NEED to jettison you guys as quickly as possible.
Asher only wants to keep his money. He DOES NOT give a flying foo about the country. And he will STUDIOUSLY trample ANY rebellion to his pubbie rule.
Tommy Ridge anyone? Corbitt anyone???
IE, the CANDYMAN deliberately undermined Smith’s campaign, because after all, “he wasn’t a company man!!”
Hey, I don’t know, BUT I BEEN TOLD. Right, Bobby?
Republicans lost becasue they tried to look like Democrats.
Thanks Karl, thanks a lot. Those insights are really special.
Karl, shut your pie hole and slink off like you ought.
This was precisely the candidate and election you wanted.
You got it.
You lost it.
I never want to hear another word from you.
EVER.
he;s exactly the reaosn why we lose.
It’s not because we do not have enough votes, it;s because we had a massive rigged election, hell they are even still finding bags stuffed with ballots here in the Dem 3 counties of FL
When asked the woman in charge of that county elections said this happens all the time\\\HUH
St Lucie county another Dem county said they could nto explain how the votes were counted
ARE YOU FRIGGING KIDDING ME
Karl Rove = LOSER.
Karl Rove = LOSER.
Karl Rove = LOSER.
Karl Rove = LOSER.
Karl Rove = LOSER.
Karl Rove = LOSER.
Karl Rove = LOSER.
Karl Rove = LOSER.
The worst thing about the idiocy Akin, and to a lesser extent Mourdock, babbled on about is just how many conservatives simply couldn't see how much damage these jokers were doing to their own campaigns and the Republican party. A large chunk of our party is living in a fantasy land that in no way resembles the way citizens react and vote in the real world. We even had a not insignificant number of conservatives who thought polls could be "unskewed".
You actually had conservatives even here on FR trying to sell the idea that Akin shouldn't drop out and that he could still win. The extent to which one has to wear blinders to not understand that Akin was finished once he droned on about women's bodies magically preventing pregnancy in cases of rape is...well...astonishing.
tell that to the idiot named Hannity who worships the elitist types like Rove, hell he can;t mention that we had an election stolen and we are still finding corruption, fraud, bags of ballots hidden in a corner here.
5. Bitch slap anyone who tries to become a sore loser when they fail to win the primary (Lugar-IN, Murkowski-AK).
6. Don’t take the base for granted and if you claim to be a “big tent” party don’t shove RNC rules down the delegate’s throats.
7. If you slap around West, Bachmann or Palin, etc., don’t expect me to defend/support you when you’re in a fix.
8. Don’t try to “out-Democrat” Democrats.
we lost because we had a rigged election and results not adding up, do you know that they are still finding balot stuffed in bags in the corner of rooms here , that we have found that republican votes were not counted.
Yea we lost because of corruption , doens;t matter who we had running the Dems had bags of votes on stand by in precincts
Until our side gets some balls and speaks up instead of being cowardly and thinking the left will call them a name then we might have a chance until then everyone needs to speak up and demand off the RNC they better look and investigate into this election.
^ THIS ^
7. If you slap around West, Bachmann or Palin, etc., dont expect me to defend/support you when youre in a fix.

Rove’s credibility is exactly zero. I suggest everyone listen to what Rove has to say, and then do the opposite.
I would not have a problem with a Federal Law specifying all voting for President be done on Optical Scanners.
We use those in Alabama. You get instant results as soon as the polls close, and have easy to handle, rugged paper backups that can be rescanned to verify any possilbe erratic results.
Shut up Karl.
