CIA Director David H. Petraeus did not intend to resign from his position until it became clear that his extramarital affair with his biographer would become public after a federal investigation of his e-mail accounts, according to two longtime military aides who admire the retired general.
Obviously, he knew about the relationship for months, he knew about the affair, he was in it, so yes, he was not going to resign, said Peter Mansoor, a retired Army colonel and Petraeuss executive officer during the Iraq surge, who spoke Monday with the former general for about half an hour. But once he knew it was going to go public, he thought that resigning was the right thing to do. There is no way it would have remained private.
Steven Boylan, who served as Petraeuss public affairs officer during that same 2007-2008 period in Iraq, said the retired four-star general felt he had to [resign] once he knew it would be made public. He didnt feel he could lead the organization with this being out there.

Yes, Peter, thanks for that astute observation. Petraeus was in the relationship so, yes, obviously Petraeus knew about the relationship. Good grief, man, think about what you say before talking to the press
Have to agree - Cantor did NOT do his sworn duty here! He is therefore liable here.
Do you think it is strange, really?
Gradually Obama has been throwing everything that Americans have trusted and relied on OUT.
The military has been made to accept gays.
Religion has been under assault.
Our schools are a mess with teacher’s not teaching but brainwashing.
Banks are not being thought of highly anymore.
Realtors same thing.
Now FBI, CIA are thought of not qualified do to their jobs.
What next....
You’re absolutely correct! What’s the matter with these so-called guardians of truth? Even FOX commercials intimate that there’s a connection.
But it’s nuts anyhow. Are we to believe that a single FBI agent, at the request of a “friend,” uncovered what a pretty extensive FBI background-check missed? That no one in Afghanistan noticed what was going on with the general? That Cantor’s aide’s call to the FBI didn’t alert the bureau that it would have to get its story straight with the White House?
Come ON.
Betrayus hoped affair would stay secret.
Not when you are working with Chicago Thugs.
If we can’t vote Bonehead and Cantor out of leadership,
Maybe we can scandal them out and get real leaders.
Obama already used it as blackmail to make sure Petraeus adhered to the administration line three days later that it was the video. It was odd at the time and now we know why.

A correction - effects should be affects. Thanks to kabumpo for alerting me to the error.
Ah heck, we need a few English majors around to keep us in check...
Am I the only one that doesn’t believe any of this as it’s being presented. These are all different lies covering other lies that come back to a single source. There’s likely a story or two that we may never hear about layered in here as well.
Anyone wanting on or off this ping list, please advise.

Probably an indication of sloppy reporting. A 4-star would rate a general officer as an XO. This colonel was probably an aide while an O-5. If he was an aide he would be in a position to know a lot about the general’s personal life — much more than an ‘executive officer” probably would know.
I have one question for the WaPo............Why did the President let 4 Americans get murdered on Sept 11,2012?
