House Speaker John Boehner is about to begin another attempt at a grand bargain deficit reduction deal with President Obama, a high wire act in which he will be buffeted by demands from the White House as well as from House Republicans.
The difficulty of keeping in step with the hard line approach of his fellow Republicans has been on view since the presidential election.
On Thursday, Boehner told ABC News' Diane Sawyer that repealing Obamacare was no longer his party's strategy saying, "Obamacare is the law of the land" and the election settled the dispute over repeal.
Shortly after his comment was aired, Boehner put out a tweet saying, "ObamaCare is law of the land, but it is raising costs & threatening jobs. Our goal has been, and will remain, #fullrepeal."
During that interview, the Speaker also told Sawyer that comprehensive immigration reform is a top priority in his legislative agenda during the next Congress. Republicans within his conference, like Rep. John Fleming, were livid.

“Like I said, Reid and Boehner wont touch it.”
I know... but I’d still rather have it than a total collapse.
Coulter jumped the shark, that’s for sure. I think the sole “like” for Christie amongst some Republicans is that he is blunt. Problem is, blunt is fine, but when you couple that with being an egotistical blowhard who frequently does stupid crap, doesn’t make for a good Presidential candidate (then again, the Dems went “that way” with picking Biden for VP).
Yes, I was also amused by FReepers who thought that once Willard won, he could be “controlled” and “forced” to support a Conservative agenda or he’d be “primaried(!)” in 2016. That was definitely a knee-slapper fer sure.
HA-Ha, beat ya to it #96
Well if say that Republicans killed the economy under Obama (for not saving it for him) then at least we will force them to sound as dumb as many Republicans do when they make similar arguments,
RE :” The nation is pretty conservative hopefully our reps will understand that”
The same nation that elected O twice? : the gay marriage, amnesty illegal alien, tax the rich, food stamp POTUS? That is the conservative nation?
File that one with your ‘Reid and Bohner will impeach Obama' idea.
“The next time you and I will be allied will be, ummmmm, NEVER!”
Ya know the line between a liberal and a concerned conservative ? Yeah you crossed it.
I bet I could post this tirade on DU and get all kinds of thumbs up.
I ain’t looking for allies Elk, if I was I really doubt I’d be looking at you...lol
And you if hate everyone so much I’m surprise you just don’t scream “I hate GOP leaders and the people who vote for them”
That is alot of hate and swearing from a God fearin man - burning my eyes.
Yep, they said the same thing about McCain.
Many told me we couldn't wait for a Walker because if Romney lost this election then this country would no longer exist. The smart ones who said that stopped posting, the dumb ones better be polite :)
Yeah, led by Ann Coulter.
I'm now throwing up in my mouth a little.
John Boner-Boner-Boner-Boner LOL
“HA-Ha, beat ya to it #96”
yeah I saw that.. I’m probably older - I had to go the bathroom.

I really believe that. http://www.politico.com/2012-election/map/#/House/2012/
There are clusters of libs and probably 1/3 who just vote with Snoopdog or Beyonce. But I think most Conservatives rule the land. The dems had a better marketing plan which was something Republicans didn’t have.
And I never said Reid would go for impeachment...
You live in a fantasy(pre-2012 reality check). This is not 1980 and that wasn't even true in 2004 and this country is far gone since then with two Obama elections.
If this country was so conservative you wouldn't have been on this thread defending Bohner tonight as he wouldn't feel it necessary to surrender to O on immigration.
That adjective doesn't further the conversation, but I'll comment on that. How is that "stupider" than doing like Boehner and becoming a part of the disaster?
Boehner said "We're ready to be led".
He has made similar deferential statements regarding Obamacare... "it's the law of the land"
How about he keep his mouth shut? How about he oppose Obama and the Dems? How about withholding funding for Obamacare?
How about you sycophants not twist my words?
Bingo.
He knows economics better than anyone in the House.
Oh come on Ray:
1 you don’t know what that means.
2 If you did, I would assume you just calling names again.
And at the end of the day when a lib loses an argument they resort to name calling...
lost a bit of credibility didn’t ya....
best just to be quiet now
“RE :After you call a guy a Boner what makes you think you have anything relevant to say ?
John Boner-Boner-Boner-Boner LOL”
I think you proved my point ...lol
“How about you sycophants not twist my words?”
Your pissed because John isn’t acting like a raging madman? Your pissed because you don’t like his rhetoric or tone?
You expect everyone to conform to your vernacular even though you will continue to cherry pick comments from paragraphs. You have yet to say one positive thing.
You want to demoralize conservatives and eliminate any spec of hope in their leaders.... good strategy going forward - if you were a liberal.
Keep it up maybe you can sway enough conservatives that their leaders are all bad, then congress can go dem in 2014 and you’ll have you’ll have your wish.

I don’t think so.... as said before we didn’t lose on ideas we lost on a technicality - Obama appealed to more of the population. Why / how he appealed is the question. His performance as a leader sux by all measures. So was it free phones, free money (food stamps, welfare, etc), was because he did countless TV shows and parties with celebs, and interviews with media rags. How many of the people voting actually knew who Romney was ? Romney / Ryan probably would won easy if Ryan did the crap Obama did (IMO).
The country has to deal with immigration - both parties have been terrible at for over 30 years. All the current ideas all seem to lacking. Bottom line for me is that they shouldn’t be citizens period without standard processing. Non citizens shouldn’t get any free education, or government services, or jobs - unless they have green cards. As far as them being here walking around and spending money ????
Bad part - we are talking some kind of government IDs for everyone, and alot of folks hate that.
I’m not defending Boehner as much as trying to focus on fixing the rhetoric. There are good ideas and methods out here we need to find and rally around them.
You are truly delusional, trolling for an argument.
No time for you.
“raging madman” “rhetoric or tone”
Strawman nonsense.
How about effectiveness?
