Obama hints at handgun restrictions too
Washington Examiner ^ | October 17, 2012 | Paul Bedard

The National Rifle Association, jumping on President Obama's new and firm support for a Clinton-style assault weapons ban, is stepping up its attack on the president in Ohio, Virginia, Florida and Wisconsin with a new "we told you so" theme.

David Keene, president of the NRA, told Secrets, "the president has ratified what we have been saying" in ads and mailings to pro-gun voters. "See, he peeked out and finally said what he wants," said Keene.

In his 2008 campaign and while president, Obama has distanced himself from gun issues, aware that it could hurt him politically in key battleground states. But when pressed about gun violence during the Tuesday town hall-style presidential debate, he fully embraced a Clinton-style assault weapons ban. Clinton's ban expired in 2004.

Suggesting a ban not just on semi-automatic weapons like the AR-15 but maybe even handguns, the most popular rifle in America, the president said, "What I'm trying to do is to get a broader conversation about how do we reduce the violence generally. Part of it is seeing if we can get an assault weapons ban reintroduced. But part of it is also looking at other sources of the violence. Because frankly, in my hometown of Chicago, there's an awful lot of violence and they're not using AK-47s. They're using cheap handguns."

Keene said that Obama's statement was a "strategic error on his part" because it blew up the president's pro-Second Amendment rhetoric. "He knows it's politically dangerous to take on the Second Amendment," said Keene.

"We have credibility when we say that Barack Obama is a threat to your rights. But that credibility is obviously enhanced 10-fold when Barack Obama, in a moment of weakness, says, 'Yeah, as a matter of fact I am.' And that's what he did," said Keene...

Barry is still trying to nail down the anti-Second Amendment crowd. It must be worse than the polls are showing.

I don’t see many “cheap handguns” anymore. There’s a lot of junk out there, but even the junk is expensive.

NRA Up in Arms Over Obama Remark "...........................Through its political action committee, the NRA Political Victory Fund, the NRA has fielded 25 paid organizers deployed to 13 states including battlegrounds that may determine the election's outcome such as Florida, Ohio, Colorado, Wisconsin, Virginia and Nevada.

In addition, an army of 4,300 volunteers is making hundreds of thousands of phone calls, distributing thousands of fliers and visiting events and places where gun owners congregate, Arulanandam said............."

But banning cheap handguns would be racist — much worse than voter ID.

I knew when I heard the question being asked that it’d be a negative for Obama, no matter how he answered it. Answer it with a simple defense of the 2nd Amendment, and he loses a lot of votes from his base; answer it as he did, and he loses a lot of indies that might have gone for him and pisses off a lot of indies who might otherwise have stayed home.

Thank you, hoplophobic bitch who asked the question!

Zero made a big mistake in letting it slip in the debate. There are too many people Democrats that own assault weapons now. I’m not talking hood rats, but Reagan Democrats that have always lived good conservative lives but voted D because Daddy did. There is a point or two for Romney if this issue is pushed.

This is looking like it could be a tidal wave. Now is the time to push harder. I just made some more donations today.

The money will not be worth much if this administration is reelected. The value will still go down, no matter what, but we have a chance to grow back with Governor Romney.

Whew!! I just bought a S&W 357 Magnum for $200. It's almost new and I think I got a great deal.

The economy is real bad, and there's a lot of people selling their stuff way under market value.

Number of gun owners in the United States: Over Eighty Million.

Number of personnel in the US Military (including reservists and auxiliaries): Over five million

You do the math, dear leader.

“Thank you, hoplophobic bitch who asked the question!”

Cool! I just learned a new word! And am rehearsing how to use it, too. Like, should a medical profession interrogate me about whether I have any firearms in my house, instead of telling them to go fuch themselves, I can say, “With a question like that, sounds to me like you must be seriously hoplophobic. You might want to see a professional about that.”

I think Obama's seen the writing on the wall, and he's just throwing out things that work with the extreme left.

He's pretty much given up being careful about what he says, he's grasping at straws, counting the days, and contemplating moving to Hawaii in January.

After that, it's the good life, no problems, fat speaking fees, and all the lifetime perks of an ex-president. The temporal heaven of any lifetime public employee with connections.

If you want to see the medical professional go white as a sheet, tell them that the office malpractice carrier might be interested in the boundary violation that they are in the midst of committing.

Get them to STFU right away. Boundary violations are, you see, people giving advice or practicing in areas in which they aren’t licensed...which means that if they get sued as a result, the malpractice coverage never kicks in and they are PERSONALLY liable. Since medical professionals aren’t licensed home safety or firearms experts, they are committing said boundary violation.

The thugs committing the violence in Chicago will resort to knives or stone and bricks if they have to. The guns are just easier.
