Activists to Romney: Why Aren't You Beating Obama?

WASHINGTON - Republican activists are incredulous: Why can't Republican Mitt Romney seem to break open a tight race with President Barack Obama given the nation's sluggish economy and conservative enthusiasm to beat the Democrat?

"He ought to be killing Obama, and he's clearly not doing that," said 32-year-old R.J. Robinson, one of the thousands of activists attending the annual Values Voters Summit this weekend. "He should be doing better."

“He is the nightmare candidate. He makes McCain look competent.”

Stop that kind of talk now. It’s insulting.

Agreed.

Repeating Romney is LEADING in today’s Rasmussen poll.

However he needs to step in up now for the win.

Ryan is how, Romney can step things up.

And last night on SNL we learned how Ryan is to be portrayed: as a liar. Their Ryan was telling everyone that he could do 1000 pushups in 10 seconds or something like that, then walking it back absurdly.

* * *

Yaelle, I saw that too. I watched SNL last night only to see how they would portray the presidential race. SNL took some itty bitty jabs at Obama, but HUGE mean jabs at Romney & Ryan.

I agree that this attitude of “Democrats cool, Republicans bad/mean/stupid/liars” is very damaging in the popular culture. Anyone who really *thinks* for herself is already reading the Internet and is either convinced of Obama’s ineptitude (and other major issues, of course, but we needn’t go there), or at least open to hearing about it. We need to reach the masses who never read anything political and don’t get past reading the headlines in the papers.

I’m thinking about trying to organize a calling campaign to SNL, the Daily Show, etc. to attempt to shame them into at least a little bit of evenhandedness in their coverage of the race. (We should definitely hit Craig Ferguson, too; I believe he leans conservative.) What do you (and anyone else) think of this idea? What’s the best way to go about it?

Yeeowza, I guess we might as well all just pack it in then, hell, just vote obama so we can get it over with.

There is a theory among some conservatives, (not saying I necessarily agree with it), but it basically states that the welfare state has grown too large and the country is doomed to economic collapse sooner or later (see Greece). Electing fiscal conservative Republicans may delay it a few more years but eventually it will happen. Therefore it is better for us in the long run to elect Obama and perhaps even give the congress back to the democrats. Which will speed up the inevitable collapse and also give them the blame when the house of cards comes crumbling down on their watch.

So, why do you have to ping you anti Romney zealots for support?

Should I number you among the pro-Romney Romneybots?

Sarah Palin proved all 4 of those points wrong when she brought us a victory in 2010.

Sarah Palin did not bring us victory. Glad you love Mrs Palin but let us deal in fact.

Millions of people worked very very hard to make 2010 happen. Sitting on our butts whining for someone to "Save us" this year is childish.

We have to work for every vote, not sit around fantasizing about some magic PR silver bullet to slay the evil leftist propaganda dragon.

Right you are. Conservatives will pay for another generation or two for their hidebound inability to suss or counteract the takeover of popular culture by the 60’s counterculture. It was a revolution in national attitudes that we didn’t see coming, didn’t know what it was when it was upon us and still only piss and moan about while we pray to God that enough employed Americans commute to work every day to give talk radio an effective audience share and pray to God that Rupert Murdoch’s Arabian owners don’t pull the plug on News Corp. Without them, game over.

Sadly, conservatives still don’t even know what “popular culture” is, certainly not the leadership cadres or they would be encouraging every mother’s son and daughter to go into show business. Blindness never pays, never.

This was very well said.

This goes both ways. I was recruited to be part of a similar effort from our side, but didn’t have the time to devote to it.

It doesn’t have to be organized. Anyone can sign up on liberal sites and start sowing seeds of discontent and discouragement. It actually works a lot better if it’s not centrally organized-like the Tea Party movement.

The best way to do it is to come in from the far left expressing dissatisfaction that Obama and the Dems aren’t even MORE socialist than they are - shut down Gitmo, single payer health care, shut down talk radio, bring all troops home, environazi-ism, etc.

People in the G.O.P. decided we did not need a conservative candidate and once again picked a liberal one for us, giving conservatives no voice in the matter. Now they are surprised conservatives are not geared up to elect their candidate?

Since they have ignored my input as a conservative, to the point of ignoring and/or making fun of conservative ideas and candidates all the way to the Convention I was sure they had the votes to elect their candidate without depending on the votes of conservatives.

I have not seen any enthusiasm for re-electing Obama, but haven’t seen any for electing Romney either.

Good grief ... the conventions just ended bringing us to the beginning of the real campaign season. I think we’ll see that R&R will win in the end.

Sorry your candidate of choice did not win the GOP nomination.

Quit mindlessly clinging to your sour grapes. Your posts is totally divorced from anything resembling a rational thought.

Here is Romney on the issue. Obama is 100% opposed to all of it. It is utterly moronic for supposed “Conservatives” to ague that 100% of nothing with Obama is better then 85% of something with Romney

Some days I have the same feeling and agree with it, other days I don't. It's tough when you're facing a storm to not have doubts.

I don't assume to know all of the answers but I do know none of us have a chance being eternally negative, we all have to stick together no matter how things turn out.

Total nonsense.

The current GOP platform is the most conservative ever. The current Democrat platform added planks supporting taxpayer funded abortion on demand up to birth and a pro gay marriage plank.

Sorry your candidate of choice did not win the GOP nomination. Get over it. Quit mindlessly clinging to your sour grapes. Your ignorance of the deep fundamental basic political difference between Romney and Obama is utterly inexcusable.

The fact of the matter is a certain segment of the conservative movement has NO interest in winning. They rationalize their political laziness and cowardice by spending all their time shooting their own side in the back.

I been in politics 32 years and we see this same stupidity every election year. Conservative “Activists” who think by sitting on their asses whining they are “helping”. No they are merely helping the Democrat propaganda machine.

These sort of “Conservative” are the useful idiots of the Democrat propaganda machine.

Presidential elections are different than off years

Too many idiots come out and vote that don't in the off years
They are NOT really informed but completely influenced by the MSM

BTW, you cant’ answer my question as to why you need to ping help from your friends to back you up.

But then you really did answer the question didn’t you?

You did so by falling back on the Romneybot meme, how utterly weak of you....not to mention disgracefull and unbecoming of a FReeper.
