Activists to Romney: Why Aren't You Beating Obama?
associated press ^ | September 16, 2012 | Kasie Hunt

WASHINGTON - Republican activists are incredulous: Why can't Republican Mitt Romney seem to break open a tight race with President Barack Obama given the nation's sluggish economy and conservative enthusiasm to beat the Democrat?

"He ought to be killing Obama, and he's clearly not doing that," said 32-year-old R.J. Robinson, one of the thousands of activists attending the annual Values Voters Summit this weekend. "He should be doing better."

Activists need to quit bitchin’ and start workin’.

Romney isn’t the dream candidate for anyone on the right, but he is bucket loads better than Obamugabe.

I’ve knocked on several doors and made a few phone calls already...and I’ll keep workin’.

This has two part. Or three actually.

First off, there is a lot of bias currently in polls. Rasmussen currently has Romney ahead by one (today).

Second off, there is still a lot of conservatives who are not motivated by Romney.

That makes my third point: GOOD JOB on the VP pick. Now Romney stand behind your VP. With conviction, and make him a co-equal.

Ryan is quite popular.

To tell the truth, outside of your influence group, you are not. A lot of us will vote for you because of who you oppose, but you’re just not very popular. Never have been.

Get Ryan out front and center. Now.

Obama has expanded the shiftless and moron vote to a point where they are a majority.

Anyhoo, Rasmussen is the only credible pollster now and he has Romney with a slight lead.

I can give several reasons.

1. CNN
2. MSNBC
3. NY Times Company
4. Networks

If they did nothing more than tell the truth, Obama would have already been fitted with prison orange.

I’m going to keep saying this until it sticks. There is a coordinated and serious group of left wingers working in DC in liberal organizations that are, day after day, trawling our web sites and posting comments so conservatives become so demoralized that they stay home. This is an ongoing effort.

I have seen this first hand. Do NOT let it infect you.

I have to give Romney credit for attacking bozo on this foreign policy crisis. The media crucified him yet he stuck to his guns and it was good to hear one of his surrogates refer to the president as “amateur hour”. What’s more, it told us exactly who the RINOS were... the ones who spoke out against him.

“Activists to Romney: Why Aren’t You Beating Obama?”

There is little Romney can do. It’s not his fault. The past week all that has been report is 0bama and company is doing a skilled, masterful job at handling the crisis in the Middle East while Romney is being and opportunist and politicizing the whole thing. Nothing will change in the next month and a half either. All you will hear is 0bama- great, Romeny - bad.

I think Romney is doing a great job just keeping it an even race. He has insurmountable odds trying to overcome the information that gets out to the people. He’s not just running against 0bama, he’s running against the media.

The election will very close only. Fortunately there is a set 43% or so that will never consider voting for 0bama. Romney needs to lock down 7% more and focus on six states. I’m sure he will all the McCain states. He just needs to pull VA, NC, IN, OH, Fl and CO back into the fold and he wins. I believe he has already pulled IN and NC back and is close in bringing VA and FL back too. OH and CO are going to be tough though.

Sarah Palin proved all 4 of those points wrong when she brought us a victory in 2010. Gov Walker also overcame CNN, MSNBC, NY Times Company.

The liberal media didn’t just get invented after Romney had won the nomination.

Thank you for saying it. I see this as the biggest problem in this election. Unless we catch on fire and start screaming loud enough to drown out the msm, it will be hard to win.

That said, we can drown them out. We did it with the Tea Party and 2010 elections, we can do it now. Let's get it done!

Romney says a few really great things, then backs off going back to his milk toast unconvincing speeches.
Ryan does not back off and is on fire.
People do not elect vice presidents.
Romney wont win unless he sets himself on fire, and that is not likely to happen. He doesn’t have a history of conservatism and his sorta support for it now sounds hollow.

Oh please. The trolls are obvious.

Romney is almost invisible. He had a big chance with the predictable catastrophe in the Islamist Winter that Hillary! and Mugabe caused.

Instead he was muzzled, and the thugs are out shouting down anyone who criticizes.

Romney's trying to play nice, and not upset anyone. His whispering will result in nothing but contempt.

His whole life has been about avoiding conflict. Obama's has been about provoking it and then deflecting blame.

He's got only a thin thread of a chance. Somehow take two of the Midwestern states he's not winning in now: Pennsylvania and Iowa, and maybe Wisconsin or Colorado.

Absent that, it's Johnny McCain reading his weepy "my friends" speech.

I agree, though part of the problem is Romney is not a real conservative candidate.

That’s my point in escalating Ryan’s role in this.

Ryan needs to motivate the base. You did real good Romney with the selection of Ryan.

Continue that. Escalate that. Ryan is a very popular guy.

USE HIM.

So was Gov. Walker. So was Sarah Palin in 2010 when she brought us a victory. So were the republicans in 2002.

I think Romney is doing a great job just keeping it an even race.

You mean like Bush did against Al Gore. Wanna know who will win another post 2000 election fiasco? Take a look at the USSC now vs 2000.

Karl Rove said you have to add 3% to 5% because of democrat voter fraud.

Romney needs to do better.

I think there are a number of conservative voters who have not coalesced behind Romney because he was not their pick.

As Ayn Rand states:

"There is no personal neutrality in the world today." In other words, you can't sit this one out; you can't choose not to take sides; you can't sit on the fence; you can't pretend to be Switzerland. So you have but two choices: surrender and submit to Obama and those behind him, or resist by every art, with any means and with every ounce of will and determination that you possess.

By choosing not to choose you allow the vote of the entitlement crowd choose for you.

There's also a 4th part - one that could make all the difference and put R&R up by a comfortable lead -

The self-percieived Christians (refer to my tag line) who, foaming at the mouth, vow never to vote for a Mormon - as they “don't believe in Jesus Christ" - You know, Mormon: The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints.

They'd rather sit back and get measured for their burka - blue or black? - and checkered table clothes to wrap around their heads.

Despairingly, there are many of them in FR.

It’s the media, stupid.

(Not calling you, Berlin Freeper, stupid - sicher wissen Sie das.)

The candidates speaking directly to the American people and NOT in a phony red white and blue commercial contributes to about 1% of the information the average American receives about a candidate.

99% of info about a candidate is sifted through the left wing strainer of the MSM.

Case in point for Saturday Night Live as they had their first chance to define the candidates in comedy last night. While Barack Obama was portrayed (by an actual black man!) as a bumbling loser in economy and foreign policy, he was portrayed as worlds better than an out of touch, clueless rich guy. (Their Romney: “I know the struggles the American family faces. Why, just this summer my horse LOST at the Olympics!”

It’s the media. One thing “we” could do is to REFUSE TO DEBATE WITH MSM LIBERAL MODERATORS AND HOSTS. If Obama wouldn’t debate with Rush Limbaugh as the moderator, why should we do it with Chris Wallace? He pronounces Romney’s very name with a vomit like groan. “R-r-r-r-OM-nay”

He can't "seem" to because:

My only hope is that Obama gets impeached because Romney ain't gonna beat him. He doesn't seem to even want to beat him. He's afraid of Obama.

Romney is cowering in the corner hoping nobody notices him and that he can win this race on the sole issue that he ain't Obama.

It is beyond pathetic. But don't say you weren't warned.

Ryan needs to be pushed further in front. Romney is ok, but a lot of our side objects to his moderation. He just doesn’t do it for a lot of people.

Romney’s fine, but ESCALATE Ryan. Push Ryan out in front, 50% of the time.

Romney not only has taken in almost the Billion dollar figure in campaign funds that l'bozo said he was giong to get - and has fallen far short of - but Romney hasn't spent will nilly and now has OODLES more than l'bozo to spend now - and he's got his ads ready to go in all the swing states - he'll have coverage over l'boza at about 4 or 5 to one.

l'bozo was so confident and inept that he's pretty much spent his wad already and the big bucks he expected has not rolled in. (Which is why getting to those fund raisers this week was far more important than attending security briefings and safe guarding America and our citizens abroad - or tamping down what could turn into WW111.)

In the meantime, we all need to roll p our sleeves, get down to or local headquarters and dig in! Anyone who doesn't, if the vote goes the wrong way, will have no right to complain...or discuss it.

For myself, I love being in the thick of it, so my sleeves are rolled up to my elbows.

Frankly, I do not think Romney’s problem is the base. At the ballot box, overwhelmingly our base will vote against Obama, no matter how they feel about Mitt.

I think his problem is the apoliticals. (This is the true name for “moderates” or “undecideds.” They are neither; they don’t focus on politics.) Most of the non black apoliticals are very unhappy with Obama. A lot of quiet black people are as well. Here is the problem:

These apoliticals get ALL of their info about Romney through the MSM, maybe a little from friends. They are being told he is worse even than Obama, a stiff, wooden rich guy who cares little about their lives. And they have no reason not to believe it. They did NOT hear about Romney’s personal one on one charity work and kindnesses. They heard he strapped his dog to the roof of the car. They don’t even think the dog was in a kennel. They see him as cruel, strapping the actual dog to the car roof. I know it sounds dumb but these are the same people who thought Sarah Palin said that she would be great at foreign policy because she could see Russia from her house.

And last night on SNL we learned how Ryan is to be portrayed: as a liar. Their Ryan was telling everyone that he could do 1000 pushups in 10 seconds or something like that, then walking it back absurdly.

THAT is our problem. There are no fun comedy shows from the conservative point of view. There is little MSM from the conservative point of view and the apoliticals are NOT WATCHING NEWS SHOWS unless there is a fire or hurricane in their area.

It was hard to not be demoralized when the Supreme Court Upheld Obamacare, because that was not Obama, that was supposed to be a rational decision that would overcome the insanity. Instead, it nourished the insanity, and we are now taxed by virtue of our birth as citizens.

The forces against freedom are far more extensive than Obama. That is what brings me down.

I’m hoping and praying that the debates will turn the trick. I already know the media will do their usual shilling and spinning and that the moderators will be biased, but even so they can’t change the words people hear coming from the mouths of Hussen/Biden and Romney/Ryan, and I have no doubt that Romney and Ryan will be the better debators when taken at their own words without the MSM filter. My only fear is that there is already a majority who only want to hear what their “gibmes” will be, and that of course is the ‘rats’ natural constituency.

It seems to me there are fewer and fewer voters every election cycle who actually will decide the outcome. Both parties have about 48% of the electorate either sown up or leaning in their direction so that an anybody but (fill in the blank) strategy works most of the time.

The problem for the GOP this time is they nominated a candidate that is impossible for that 2% on either side to support for whatever reason...

Name one thing Romney has done since he got the nomination that makes you want to vote FOR him. Name one position he has taken that is consistent with the conservatism that is at the heart of this forum?

He grabbed the nomination by pretending to be a "severe conservative" and since he got the nomination he has turned hard left. Are you ready for 8 more years of the left wing agenda being foisted on our nation (only this time from the Republican Party)?

If Romney wins he will continue the socialist policies that got us into this mess and when the depression hits the fan, the the Republicans will be blamed. Then in 4 years we will get a Democrat like FDR who will lead us through the depression until the next world war.

Stay home, at least we can show the GOP just how much we despise them as the obama goons are kicking down our doors.

Do you think you are helping matters with this approach? There are a lot of Christians at FR who are voting for a Mormon, because he happens to be the guy running against the gay Muslim. I, for one, think Romney, even with the baggage of Mormonism, is a much better man than Obama. Likewise, even with his statist and PC tendencies, Romney is more competent, intelligent and capable as a leader. His choice of Ryan for VP shows he isn’t afraid of having competent, energetic people around him. Obama chooses people like Biden, and we know what attracts Obama to old white men. He chooses bathhouse buddies like Rahm and control freaks like Valerie Jarrett, who was so corrupt she was forced out of the Daley Administration in Chicago.
