On Wednesday September 12, 2012 blogger Speak With Authority discovered that five days before 9-11, the US State Department sent out a memo announcing no credible security threats against the United States on the anniversary of 9-11.
The Overseas Security Advisory Council, who posted the memo, is part of the Bureau of Diplomatic Security under the U.S. Department of State.
The OSAC memo said:
Terrorism and Important Dates Global 9/6/2012
OSAC currently has no credible information to suggest that al-Qa’ida or any other terrorist group is plotting any kind of attack overseas to coincide with the upcoming anniversary of September 11. However, constituents often have concerns around important dates, holidays, and major events, Often times, these concerns are the result of increased media attention to the issue, rather than credible evidence of a terrorist plot.

Jihadi groups in Egypt, including Islamic Jihad, the Sunni Group, and Al Gamaa Al Islamiyya have issued a statement threatening to burn the U.S. Embassy in Cairo to the ground.
According to El Fagr, they are calling for the immediate release of the Islamic jihadis who are imprisonment and in detention centers in the U.S. including Guantanamo Bay: “The group, which consists of many members from al-Qaeda, called [especially] for the quick release of the jihadi [mujahid] sheikh, Omar Abdul Rahman [the “Blind Sheikh”], whom they described as a scholar and jihadi who sacrificed his life for the Egyptian Umma, who was ignored by the Mubarak regime, and [President] Morsi is refusing to intervene on his behalf and release him, despite promising that he would. The Islamic Group has threatened to burn the U.S. Embassy in Cairo with those in it, and taking hostage those who remain [alive], unless the Blind Sheikh is immediately released.”

These people are idiots. A simple look about these countries of Islamic dominance should be sufficient to err on the side of caution, and cause our government to provide adequate coverage to our U.S. personnel, and our taxpayer investments in those countries.

Chaos at the State Dept?
I spoke with a well-placed journalist last night whose sources describe the situation at the State Department in one word: “Chaos.” The working assumption is that several American embassies may have been penetrated, or are vulnerable to attack, because so many of them rely on local residents for staff needs at the embassy, and as such may be in a position to breach security if they have been recruited by Al Qaida. Moreover, the full story of the attack on the Benghazi consulate is much worse than we have been told (except by the Independent newspaper report John and I linked to here on Thursday).
The consulate in Benghazi was an interim facility, with only a standard door lock for security, and worse, Ambassador Stevens was traveling with only a light security detail, rather than in the heavily armed convoys our diplomats in the region usually employ. The attack on the Benghazi was no mere target of opportunity spurred by reaction to the “Innocence of Muslims” film; the film is just a pretext. The killing of Amb. Stevens was a premeditated hit, planned and carried out as retaliation for the recent drone strike that killed the number two Al Qaida operative in Afghanistan recently. The vulnerability of Stevens at the Benghazi compound was scouted out carefully. All the other embassy protest activity is just covering theater.

My first troubling question about the Benghazi ambush was wondering what the Ambassador and his IT guy were doing out there so late at night, IIRC 9:30-10:00pm local time.
The consulates usually keep regular business hours, with maybe a skeleton crew under some circumstances.
Have you encountered anything yet which ecplains this?
One has to wonder if he was lured there, with the ‘spontaneous mob and attackers on site. First reports indicated mortars and RPGs were used in the attack. Even if such reports came from Libyans, they’ve learned to identify weapons by sound during the battles with Qaddafi’s forces.

It seems they were warned about an attack and were in or heading for some kind of safe house, which does seem to have been some kind of attack. And don’t forget, he thought he was buds with those jihadis.
I don’t know how troubling this will be because it fits into their narrative that they had no “actionable intelligence” that an attack was going to happen. Will see we a drudge siren.

To answer your question, THERE IS NO LIMIT TO THE INCOMPETENCE OF THE OBAMA REGIME. With Obie, Biden, Brennan, Dempsey and Hillary Clinton running the show, they will prove, beyond any doubt, that there is NO LIMIT to their ability to be incompetent, delusional, blind, and in Obama’s case, treasonous.
What will be interesting is what Petraeus and Panetta knew and told the JCS, State Dept. and White House.
Oh, I forgot, Obama didn’t attend any recent intelligence briefings.

My goodness..it dawned on me a few minutes ago I should have been keeping a list of links with tidbits because I’ve jumped all over the place trying to learn about this..this..MESS. I do know I read on two different sites that the Ambassador WAS asked/invited to be there at that time. If I can dig it up in the morning or run across it I’ll ping you .
The attack where HE was happened first- then there was a rescue of the remaining staff..who were taken to a “SAFE HOUSE”..where they were met by a well-coordinated attack as well.
The crowd of several hundred Libyans overran the consulate Tuesday night, shooting a hail of bullets and grenades and overwhelming the lightly guarded compound before allegedly setting fire to the main buildings where American staff lived and worked. U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and a second diplomat, Sean Smith, died in the fire.
The majority of the Americans managed to evacuate from the compound during this initial attack and reach a nearby safe house. A couple of hours later, militants launched a second wave of attacks at that site, killing the other two Americans, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, U.S. and Libyan officials said.
Still doesn’t explain what he was doing in Benghazi at the Consulate offices at that hour. Our embassy is in Tripoli at the western side of libya, Benghazi, the first stronghold of the rebels is on the east.
So far as I’ve read, the consulate is offices only, no residence, so the question remains.
What business did the Ambassador and his IT guy have there at 9-10pm local time if the offices are closed?

The one guy with him was supposedly tracking down shoulder fired antiaircraft rockets, so it was probably more than a one day affair. If they were going to be in town for more than one day they would probably just stay there and sleep over, since there are no Holiday Inns to be had.

The problem is we are not getting answers to a lot of questions. Like what did the Prezzy know and when did he know it. I am interested in the WH response on 9/11. It appears they did nothing while the conslate burned but we just don’t have a timeline or the facts.
Apparently next week they are going to shut down all questions citing the FBI investigation. I have no doubt the presstitutes will cover for them. This is the face of real fascism.

This article has the clearest presentation with numerous photos. It clarifies my misunderstanding regarding the consulate. It is, or rather was, a walled compound. With several buildings including a residence and having a “substantial security force”. And had been previously attacked.

As to the ‘second guy’ he’s been identified as the head of their IT section with 15 yrs in the USAF. So if he was tracking the floating MANPADS, that probably makes him an intel officer of some kind whose cover has/had been blown.
Odd that we would have two sizeable diplomatic missions in a country of 6.5 million.
