MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) -- Idaho authorities say the pilot of an airplane flying over a Republican party gathering had been dropping rolls of toilet paper before it crashed.
The Federal Aviation Administration says early indications are that the experimental airplane stalled or reached a speed and angle at which it lost its lift.

Here's more information.
It doesn't state it, but it's not uncommon for a "Bombing Display" to be done by these planes, at a target, to see who can get the closest to the target.
Toilet paper rolls or 2 pound bags of flower are normally used for a "bomb".
However, no one has said that this was why the pilot was dropping rolls of toilet paper.

William "Randy" Humble, 60, had been flying a Lake Amphibian DA-4-550 performing an aerial show with another aircraft around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
My sympathies go out to his family.
I'm sure he was donating his time and money to raise funds for the GOP meeting.

Now I’m mad. If the pilot died the headline should not be about toilet paper.

You ass/u/me WRONG!

#11.
One of the things that is done at air shows is to drop a roll of toilet paper so that it unrolls leaving a long strip of paper.
Then the airplane tries to see how many times they can fly through the strip of paper.
The problem is that the airplane approaches stalls in the quick turns. In this case it looks like it did stall.
I believe
William "Randy" Humble, 60, gave his life accidentally while flying his Lake Amphibian DA-4-550,
at a fund raiser for the GOP.

Sympathies to the family and friends.
My brother is a GA pilot and I'm glad he doesn't fly anymore.

I thought the same. But I found this:
"Experimental Certification. Built by Dale Schoepflin (highly experienced Lake maintenance and Lake flight instructor).
Aircraft was extended 12" forward of the rear seat. Other modifications include: 300 HP IO-550 Engine, with redesigned engine cowling and pylon; Retractable Wing Floats; Flaperons; Engine Manifold Cabin Heat; Extended large aft baggage area, and additional nose storage; Bi-fold Cargo/Passenger Door; Gear Doors; Landing lights in nose; Beefed up rear stabilizer, with Cessna style trim; Fuel Valve moved for easy pilot access.
Cruise at 155 MPH at 10,000 MSL; 145 MPH at 4,000 MSL (13 GPH at 2200 RPM /22"). Stall Speed, approximately 50 mph. Useful load, 942 lbs.
PRICE: Reduced to $190,000, Open to Offers!!"

Highly Modified Lake (without STC’s) rendering it into the Experimental Category.
I have seen it at Oshkosh, it was a beautiful plane. I would have loved to seen the performance specs or had a ride in it. Darn shame, prayers up for the pilot, I do not see how they did the drops with the clam shell windshield / doors...

I know nothing about planes.
What is that structure on the top with the long, narrow windows in it?

It's the air intake and engine cowling.
An Amphibian aircraft has to have the propeller blades well above the water
and most have the propeller and engine on or above the main wing.

Beats me. Some simply remove the pilot’s clam-shell door.
