NEW YORK Pfizer Inc. and Johnson & Johnson said Monday they are ending development of an intravenous formulation of a drug to treat Alzheimers disease after the treatment failed in two late-stage clinical trials.
The companies said bapineuzumab intravenous did not work better than placebo in two late-stage trials in patients who had mild to moderate Alzheimers disease.
The drug is designed to prevent the buildup of plaque in the brain. J&J said it is not discontinuing development of the compound and noted it has ongoing studies including a mid-stage neuroimaging study with bapineuzumab delivered subcutaneously...

DH was in this study. It was a stunner to receive notification today that they were discontinuing the trials. We felt that he was doing very well after two and one half years in the clinical study. Many other families were probably sharing the same bad news and many tears that we did today. We pray for all the Alzheimers patients and researchers as they move forward to the next phase.
You may want to read up on Turmeric and Turmeric extract it is the spice what gives mustard its yellow color and can be easily obtained in bulk for a very reasonable price. So far pharmaceutical companies have failed to come up with anything what even comes close to it.
Can you recommend some reading material

Actually Tumeric itself as well as it’s theraputic componant Curcumin are very powerful in vitro but almost none of it gets absorbed when ingested, which has had researchers frustrated for decades. Something like 95% of it just passes through the digestive tract.
One lab has had interesting success with it though, IIRC they bind it to a choline molecule. It IS available commercially, it’s called Meriva. They claim 20X the absorption rate.
We gave it to our kitty last year, she had advanced lymphoma. It perked her up quite a bit, but we learned about it way to late for it to have saved her.
Google: Meriva + Curcumin. Much of the research will pop up.
Have they tried transdermal patches of this stuff?
I'm so sorry for you. Call them up quickly and plead with them to sell you whatever they have left, they must have remaining inventory. Tell them you'll sign all the waivers they want.
No idea, but if it doesn’t get through the stomach/intestinal lining I’d think skin penetration may be even more difficult. Dunno though.
I admit I haven’t read the literature so fair caveat, BUT after studing Neuroscience for decades before, during, and after Medical School I would have to say any attempt to equate in vitro binding or inhibition of a complex protein with neurofibrillary tangles with clinical significance is so dumb it could only come from a libtard. It is like sending a 4 year old with a Viking’s ticket to a Mets game.
Suppositories - better than many other dose formats. My prior company had a lot of Rx products in suppositories. Europeans still utilize them heavily but in the U.S. there is still an aversion after all these years. But they work and the patient avoids all the nasty digestive problems. If drugs like Interferon could be adapted - wow.
What about the spice?
Can you send me a link please?
How much did it cost? My MIL is starting to lose it.

Another thing I stumbled on a few years ago was a somewhat obscure form of Vitamin E known as tocotrienols.
My mom was in a nursing home. She'd been diagnosed (rubber-stamped) with Alzheimer's, but in retrospect she did not display typical AD behavior other than forgetfulness so I think it must have been vascular dementia, though her Parkinson's was a factor also.
I'd been sneaking her CoQ10, as it's been shown to arrest the progression of PD. Then Swanson had a "deal" on CoQ10 blended with tocotrienols. I thought, "Ok whatever. A little vitamin E won't hurt." Gave her two at night before bedtime:

The following day, WOW, what a difference! It was like it had dialed the clock back five or six years. I had my mom back again!
Unfortunately I couldn't get there every day to give it to her but on the days I did the results were overnight and fantastic.
Probably won't work for everyone but it's worth a try.
