Coffee drinking linked to longer life

Drinking a daily cup of coffee -- or even several cups -- isn't likely to harm your health, and it may even lower your risk of dying from chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, a new study in the New England Journal of Medicine suggests.

NIH followed 400,000 men and women for 13 years, during which 13% died.

In the study, both regular and decaf were associated with a lower risk of dying

Overall, coffee drinkers were less likely than their peers to die during the study, and the more coffee they drank, the lower their mortality risk tended to be. Compared with people who drank no coffee at all, men and women who drank six or more cups per day were 10% and 15% less likely, respectively, to die during the study.

Coffee contains some 1,000 compounds, many of which are health-promoting antioxidants, Freedman says.

"There's some data showing that some of these components may prevent insulin resistance and have a role in diabetes," he says.

My dear old Mother was a coffee addict, so was Daddy but I think Mother was worse. They kept a pot of coffee on all the time.

I remember we were driving through Louisiana and we skipped breakfast. Mother suggested we stop and have some coffee. We did and Mother said it was the best cup of coffee she had ever had. What it was is she missed it so much that when she finally got a cup it tasted great to her.

I wonder of that is still the case with my typical sugary/creamy/definatelty not decaf coffee ...

Coffee beans dipped in dark chocolate are a favorite treat of mine. I would assume that these count beneficially too...maybe doubly so, dark chocolate is also loaded with antioxidants.

I probably enjoy 6 to 8 cups of coffee during the course of a normal day. I have know for some time that coffee has health benefits. Coffee is the largest single source for antioxidants among the American adult population.

I LOVE coffee...love the aroma in the coffee aisles of grocery stores but as a Navy brat we always had a fresh pot of coffee on...thank you LORD for proving that coffee is good for our health. Cheers! I am a coffee fanatic..best invention on God’s green earth..EVER and a little enhancements such as Baileys irish cream make it even better.

I haven’t had chocolate coffee beans since my trips to Costa Rica. Where do you get yours?

Thank you. :)

They’re in their mid 80’s but they’re active. My grandfather does yard work and my grandmother is always out and about.

They also drink OJ with their coffee. Too much acid for me.

My grandfather has a shed in their backyard and I’m concerned that there could be Brown Recluses in there. I am terrified of them, even though I haven’t encountered one. I only see a Black Widow ever one in a blue moon.

Hey, one of life’s joys in the Army was the cooks filling my canteen cup with some good ol’ joe boiled in a large cookpot. When the grounds came cascading in, cookie just said, “that’ll stick to your ribs!”

;^)

Yep, I was in the Marine Corps and had similar experiences. I filled my canteen with "field-brewed" coffee many a time when I was pulling all-night guard duty or out on field ops (like Gallant Eagle) in the Mojave desert.

Good memories!

Remember the word RICE.

RICE Therapy Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation

The recommended treatment for most brown recluse bites (the ones that do not become traumatic) is simple first aid: RICE therapy.

Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation

“What it was is she missed it so much that when she finally got a cup it tasted great to her.”

Could be that or possibly those coon asses actually know how to make coffee and not just colored water.
