The Associated Press

NEW YORK —Presidential candidate Newt Gingrich told Republicans at a New York state party dinner that he would work for Mitt Romney’s victory in the general election if Romney wins the nomination.

“We are dedicated to a unified Republican Party,” he said.

Speaking Thursday in New York City, Gingrich said he’s stayed in the race “to articulate big themes and big ideas” but that “we have a moral obligation to defeat Barack Obama.”

To that end, he said, he would work to support Romney, and he said Romney would do the same for him. “Romney and I have discussed this,” he said.

In his remarks to the state party, Gingrich called for “bold” positions and reiterated his call for energy independence by opening up off-shore areas and federal lands to drilling.

So Gingrich is a RINO now, is that right? Am I being accurate?

Much worse than that, he's a GOP-e RINO for saying he'll campaign for Romney!

That's why we all have to campaign like crazy for Newt, all the way up until Tampa!

I doubt she speaks at the convention unless she tows (toes) the party line.

So will the sentiment here now officially switch to anti-Gingrich?

Do you read anything but a selective headline?

You might try reading the thread.

You might even learn something.

LOL

He believes literally America is over when Obama is re-elected, and believes it would be wrong of him not to stop his re-election if he can.

To him that’s putting America’s survival first, not a party.

You don’t see it that way.

But just know this is the same man you supported, who has said all along, when asked, that as bad as Romney is, a second Obama term = end of America.

You didn’t know he said that all along?

Sad to get shocked by a headline that misleads, at best.

Thanks for your post.

Romney backer balks, backs Gingrich in Delaware

Guess the guy above didn’t get the “I’m all offended, he betrayed me” memo.

Gotta love this guy...after it’s all over but the shouting he gets offended by Romney and switches to Newt.

Meanwhile, here, Newt backers caved to a headline that puts forward a misleading impression.

My comment still goes.

If Gingrich ends up endorsing Romney, it will be interesting to see how much of the site goes anti-Gingrich.

SSDD...the only candidates that were ever [cough, cough] 'electable' were quickly trashed around here...simple vetting takes a lil time, and before the facts could be weighed, one by one they were toasted on the alter of anybody but bambam...

SSDD with the crap that we must hold our noses to vote *against* bambam...last i checked the only viable option was to vote *for* a candidate...

it was over before it started in kabuki land...

I doubt she will actually endorse. She’s interested in being a media voice...and that means being more or less neutral.

Friday afternoon non-news dump designed to make an old non-story a headline...he has said it before as you said and it’s not news.

Me? I pray everyday for God to guide me when I pull the lever in November.

Don’t know what else to do; these are crazy, scary times that I can’t seem to change, BUT I will never give up and accept the way things are...

Somedays I feel like one of Moses’ people wandering in a circle in the desert....(are we there yet?)

No, I don't. I see electing Romney as the final capitulation of conservatives to a de facto Socialist state, and the end of any real hope of achieving the aims of Ronald Reagan and the Tea Party.

Once elected, Romney becomes the head of the Republican party, and a Republican dominated Congress will acquiesce to his liberal agenda, where they would stand firm against Obama.

I'd rather see Obama in an inescapable straight jacket for the next four years, than see a liberal Romney run unfettered for four years. He would cement every one of Obama's disastrous policies in place, if elected, and the Congress would not oppose him.

I saw that and good for him. HOPEFULLY, all of the Newt supporters here on FR are helping him financially and with time and any support possible.

Primaries are all about choosing your candidate. It’s time to choose.

Unfortunately, I recognize several names of Newt supporters who are expressing shock and disallusionment from reading the headline of this thread.

They think it’s shocking and brand new that Newt will support Romney against Obama if Romney gets the nomination.

If this is any example, this headline and story has done its job to seperate Newt from some of the few backers he had left.

Let’s face it. Although Newt was my original favorite of the bunch, he and Santorum made the mistake of going after Romney instead of going after one another for the role of conservative standardbearer.

The RINO vote was set in stone for Romney from day 1. Those voters weren’t going to budge no matter how many times an ad about Bain capital was ran. #2. Huntsman’s presence in the race had a chance to split the RINO vote but he dropped out right after New Hampshire and endorsed Mitt, so that ended that idea.

Newt & Rick could have campaigned against one another and had one man standing - but they chose not to. Sad that a guy who 60% of the party has voted against is going to be the standard bearer.

Let’s face it.

Good advice. How many among us are truly ready to screw up their courage and face the real truth?

That being, that both Romney and Obama are on the same team, but wear different jerseys in public, and that the only real choice is to look to the Founders for inspiration?
