The U.S. Senate race in Virginia remains a toss-up, with Republican George Allen ahead of Democrat Tim Kaine by just two points.

The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey finds Allen drawing 46% of the vote to Kaine’s 44%. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and seven percent (7%) are undecided.

This one will likely be neck and neck until election day.

That’s far too close for comfort! Factor in the ‘downdraft’ from a weak Republican at the top of the ticket, and it will likely pull Kaine over the top. (/puke)

Two years ago, I would have expected Allen to take this one big.

has George Allen won the nomination yet? I heard another Republican was up big against him but haven’t followed their local politics.

Bad sign that so many Americans would even be a democrat with all the data available to expose what it is to be a democrat..

The same mystery is all the Americans that would be RINOs.. as well.. Its like the lessons learned during the “cold war” were erased.. All the information learned about communism in Russia and China and other places were erased.. magically..

History being re-written on this scale is NOT AN ACCIDENT..

I don’t see Kaine winning, despite Allen’s flaws as a candidate. At this stage, very few people in the Old Dominion are focused on this race. By late summer, with gas well over $4.00 a gallon throughout the state, all George has to do is keep linking Kaine to Obama and the economic misery that everyone will be feeling at that time. Under those conditions, there aren’t enough “blue” voters in the D.C. suburbs to put Tim over the top.

One good test of Obama’s coattails or lack thereof will be whether Kaine wants Obama to be on the campaign trail with him. Nelson of FL avoided being on stage with Obama when he visited FL.

I don’t know for sure, but I think they either dropped out or their campaigns haven’t gotten off the ground. In any event, Allen’s nomination is a foregone conclusion.

Allen could improve his standing with the electorate by denouncing BIll Bolling for screwing up the Presidential Primary.

"there aren’t enough “blue” voters in the D.C. suburbs to put Tim over the top."

I don't know.... A lot of 'funny' things tend to happen within a few of those precincts, very very late, on election night.

Per politics1.com, the following Republicans are running for U.S. Senate in Virginia:

George Allen (R) - Ex-US Senator, Ex-Governor & Ex-Congressman
E.W. Jackson Sr. (R) - Minister, Ex-Attorney, Tea Party Activist & USMC Veteran
Bob Marshall (R) - State Del., Research Consultant & ‘08 Candidate
David McCormick (R) - Attorney, Sunday School Teacher & GOP Activist
Jamie Radtke (R) - Tea Party Activist & Political Organizer

If Allen is polling so weakly, I have serious reservations of giving another shot after “macaca”. We don’t want a repeat of 2006. Someone like Bob Marshall may be a stronger candidate.

Bob Marshall, State Delegate, won the Manassas Tea Party straw poll by a wide margin.

I don’t think that means anything. Tim Kaine got 5% in the same poll.

The primary is June 12th.

amen to that..when Richmond, Norfolk, Roanoke, penisula...etc.. are all in...Loudoun, Arlington, and Fairfax counties are "counting" well into the night...

amazing that in this day and age and seeing the Dems lead for two years with all their power and seeing how their messiah has screwed this country up then it is stunning that there are still dumb foll out there who will still vote for the Dem party.

It goes to show that we really have too many stupid dumb thick ignorant people.
