Probably not much trouble at all. Our CINC demands fealty to the Afghan SOFA, I guess. I mean, if all of our soldiers can’t be armed, protect themselves, then we need to get the everloving hell away from there - as soon as possible.
I saw similar mentalities in Iraq. Interestingly, AQI made a HUGE mistake by being far more brutal than the US forces ever could be, so they finally got sick of ‘em and worked with us to crush AQI. Afghanis seem not to mind.
Understandable, but you should remember that probably the average level of awareness and knowledge (here, I mean urbane sophistication) of the typical Afghani versus the typical Iraqi is like a few hundred years, possibly more. We are literally dealing with nothing more than semi-evolved animals here.
Yeah, and I do think that makes all the difference. A lot of folks see Iraq and Afghanistan as being just simple backwards haji countries. While that’s not entirely incorrect, there is a huge difference between second-world Iraq and VERY third-world Afghanistan. The people, the “human terrain” as they call it in COIN, are totally different in practically every measurable way.
Been saying that since oscammer took office. The drugs must flow. They were flowing under bush and the harvests have increased every year since we showed up. They are bigger this year than ever.
They will continue to “find” these cases of atrocity until 0 finally “gives in” to the clamor for a public prosecution...

We aren’t there for the Afghans or Karzai. We’re there to keep the Taliban from retaking control. Afghans bear the brunt of this and it would be nice if we didn’t purposefully slaughter their children in return.

We are there because of Sept. 11. Don't you remember that it was Bin Laden who orchestrated the attacks...he gained his strength through his position in Afganistan.
If the extreme Islamist element isn't neutralized in Afganistan and Pakistan we face more terror attacks. That's why we're there.

No names yet but the Seattle media is claiming that the soldier has been identified as a 38 year old Staff Sgt from Fort Lewis, who had previously had a nervous breakdown....
which leads to way more questions and still very few answers.
The conduct of these miltiary campaigns by the U.S. government is criminal, in my humble opinion.
