GOP Debate: Rick Perry Booed Over Texas Immigration Law
ABC News ^ | Sep 12, 2011 | Amy Bingham

“The American way is not to give taxpayer-subsidized benefits to people who have broken our laws and are here in the United States illegally,” Bachmann said at the CNN/Tea Party Express debate.

Perry defended the law, saying it was a states’ rights issue.

“We were clearly sending a message to young people that, regardless of what the sound of their last name is, that we believe in you,” Perry said.

Because in all of America, the only issue that matters is illegal immigration, right?....Support of small government and individual freedoms is just the left's trojan horse to make GOP dupes forget about the only *TRUE* issue. Jobs, the deficit, the economy, Islamic terror... all completely irrelevant to true conservatives.

You miss the point. True conservatives do care about those issue, but realize that amnesty would result in 10s of millions of new leftists voters, followed by total leftist control, and the end of any hope of small government, freedom, or a strong economy and military.

..Perry is a fine representative of the globalist utopianists who have dreams of a North American Union dancing in their heads...

I can live with the in-state tuition for illegals. Mainly because he’s not been in a position to actually enforce federal border control, but has had to deal with the effects.

And with that, I’d want to minimize the state outlay of funds on illegals. One of the best ways to do that, if you don’t have the authority to actually get rid of them, is to make sure that they don’t need state help. Which means turning them into productive tax-payers. And that’s done via education.

Now, the Gardisil bit does stick in my craw. But I know the only candidate I can agree with perfectly is myself - so there is no ‘perfect’ candidate. Out of the lot of ‘em, he seems the best.

Uh . . . Hello? "Children of illegal aliens," they are minors, as in NOT ADULTS, as in they have attended Texas high schools for at least 3 years. Comprende?

Man, you Perry haters are really desperate for an excuse to attack the man.

You are aware, are you not, that Perry did not just issue a declaration creating the Texas Dream Act. It passed the state legislature with an overwhelming vote. There were NO "no" votes in the state Senate, and only 4 against it in the state House.

Correct. Although I’m not 100% in agreement with his stance on immigration, I realize that in a border state, a “deport ‘em all” mentality won’t get you elected dog catcher, even if a significant minority of that state believes that themselves.

sometime during the Clinton era, Congress mandated that these children of illegals be admitted to public schools, an unfunded mandate, as it were.

Not exactly. It was Plyler v. Doe, a 1982 SCOTUS case. Brennan, Marshall, Blackmun, Powell, Stevens, 5 to 4.

So, what you're saying is, they should be rewarded, not punished, for their criminality. I see. Thanks for the clarification. (Oh, and crossing our borders illegally is a criminal act...).

I’ve been in San Antonio for 8 months and I can tell you without a doubt that any border state will always be influenced by it’s population and it’s going to be hard to reverse things.

That's called pandering to a class of people. And you're proud of that?

Who is talking about amnesty? Well, except for all the candidates... including the non-candidate, Palin.

So, it’s not much of an issue if there is no choice to be found in all the candidates.

That said, I think we’re approaching the illegal immigration issue wrong with the fence. We need to get rid of all government support and aid to illegals. No welfare, no medicare, no free hospital visits, no bilingual education, etc, etc, etc.

With that, the ones that stay are the one’s that are going to work their butt off to EARN their way. They’ll have to learn English and join the melting pot that is America in order to survive, just like the millions of Eastern European immigrants that flooded our country during the 1880-1920s.

And that’s the kind of immigrant we want to keep. Not the leeches, not the criminals, not those incapable of becoming American.

What I do not like about Perry; Dream Act, Gardasil.

I would add that he said this year that he could envision a path to citizenship for illegals. In 2006, he said he was opposed to that. Actually, although I don't like what happened with Gardasil, it's not that big a deal for me.

I don't like Romney, for the same reasons you stated.

I think it would be very difficult for Bachmann to beat Obama.

Having problems separating the levels of government in America are we?

As you conveniently left out:

I can live with the in-state tuition for illegals.

Mainly because he’s not been in a position to actually enforce federal border control,

but has had to deal with the effects.

Which means that those that can enforce the law on the matter...

aren't in Texas.

Check our History... we have been... Holly Farms for instance. We also make it hard for them to stay here... but unless we secure the border... they will continue to come here and destroy. They are like locusts... third world parasites that take far more than they give... but regardless... bottom line is... they are NOT Americans and they are here illegally.

Education did not come up in this debate at all. The only moment it came up was about abolishing the Department of Education. If you're a parent trying to get your kid educated, not a single candidate offered anything to speak to the crisis we have in this country when it comes to education. Major failure in that.

Nobody will ever "fix" education. The problem with education is not funding, or lack of programs. Even the Teacher's Union, which cares more about teacher benefits than students' educations, is not the #1 culprit (that's #2).

It's THE PARENTS. More specifically, lack of a father. So many kids in school, especially in urban districts, don't give two sh*ts about doing well in school, either because they weren't raised to value education, or they can't speak English, or have horrible living conditions at home - all the fault of the parents and usually due to no father at all, or a worthless one if he does exist. However, no politican can be elected by standing up and saying that education sucks because of the parents, or, lack of a parent in the home (usually dad).

I will not vote for him nor will I ever support trump. If he runs... it will not be the fault of those of us that refuse to compromise on the very tenants of Conservative Ideology. It will fall on those that put their State and their governor above what is best for America. NO SALE!

What else is there?

Ron Paul will get us nuked by Iran.

Bachmann, who I like overall, just isn’t ready. She’s too naive on some issues.

Palin isn’t running, and probably won’t.

It's called a "republic," you know, like what our Founding Fathers left us. What works for us here in Texas may not be to your liking up there in that mecca of freedom and liberty called Illinois, but I don't see that it is any of your business.

They are hard working students, they have met the academic requirements, the residency requirements, they represent a better bet for a return on investment than many who are funded by affirmative action programs, and they have chosen to be on a path to citizenship.

I'd rather have them attending college paying in state tuition, than have the city of Chicago with its massive welfare system. I'd rather live in Texas with our problems than live in Illinois with your problems. Maybe you should take care of your own state before you criticize Texas for its policies . . . and this whole discussion is solely a STATE'S RIGHTS issue.

You may disagree with our policy, but since those children of illegals do have parents who pay the same state taxes as citizens, why should they not be allowed to attend our state universities at in-state rates? Do you and the other Perry haters really believe that illegals are coming to Texas because we allow some students to pay in-state tuition . . . REALLY???
