It's called a "republic," you know, like what our Founding Fathers left us. What works for us here in Texas may not be to your liking up there in that mecca of freedom and liberty called Illinois, but I don't see that it is any of your business.

They are hard working students, they have met the academic requirements, the residency requirements, they represent a better bet for a return on investment than many who are funded by affirmative action programs, and they have chosen to be on a path to citizenship.

I'd rather have them attending college paying in state tuition, than have the city of Chicago with its massive welfare system. I'd rather live in Texas with our problems than live in Illinois with your problems. Maybe you should take care of your own state before you criticize Texas for its policies . . . and this whole discussion is solely a STATE'S RIGHTS issue.

You may disagree with our policy, but since those children of illegals do have parents who pay the same state taxes as citizens, why should they not be allowed to attend our state universities at in-state rates? Do you and the other Perry haters really believe that illegals are coming to Texas because we allow some students to pay in-state tuition . . . REALLY???

The come to "America" because in most areas they can work without paying taxes, not have to carry health insurance because the 'system' will cover it, and can then send more of their income back home. Texas being one of the initial corridors into America, many of them stay.

If you people down there want to help criminals, so be it. But don't force your ideas on the balance of the nation through a presidential candidate who doesn't fit our needs. We're for America first. He's for open borders and Texas-Mexico relations first. Sorry, but no deal.

Except Perry wants to be President.
So, actually it does concern folks in IL (not my State btw)..which not everyone who resides there is unaware that we are a Republic.
Same as RomneyCare concerns most on these boards.. rightfully so.

You don’t have to be a “Perry Hater” (sheesh I wish people would grow up and stop talking like Jr High Schoolers) to be concerned about his record. BTW I’m as Texan as you are and he concerns me and has since the day he took office as Gov. Yes, I live in FL at the moment. But I have talked to my conservative friends and family who still live in TX and most do NOT support him in the primary.
Now, if he ends up with the nomination, I will be forced to support him over Obama, but at this moment I see better options. I think he is saying what he thinks we want to hear, but he has done things in the past that lead me to believe he is for more big government solutions than I am comfortable with.
Oh, and no, I don’t think anyone in this country illegally should get ANY sort of benefits, including in state tuition to college. They should be ushered across the border as soon as it is discovered that they are here against the law. Do I think their parents come here because their kids can have in state tuition? I certainly think the panoply of benefits afforded to them and their children (especially their children) are a draw. Yes sir, I do believe that. Why keep adding more?
