I watched Fox News on the treadmill this morning, and apparantly the House failed to vote down the "light bulb ban"...what is the truth here and how does this work? I read that it requires bulbs to use 27% less energy...does that mean incadescent bulbs will really be banned or can someone make such more efficient? This really pisses me off as it means there had to be a slew of Republicans who were pressured by Phillips, GE, whoever to go along with this at the expense of guess who? That's right, another hidden tax on us.
The Bill was passed in the House, it probably died in the Senate.

We have these people called RINOs and they, along with their Liberal friends, need to loose their seats in Congress during the next election.
Please get the facts before you foam at the mouth. I do remember in either May or June the House did indeed pass a bill overriding the EPA ruling.
1) The House of Representatives cannot repeal laws by itself.
2) The Constitution requires 290 Members of Congress and 67 Senators to overturn a Presidential veto.
3) The lightbulb ban was created by a Republican, who is now a very powerful member of the leadership and who sits on the deficit reduction supercommittee.
4) If you want to continue using incandescent lightbulbs, stock up now. The ban isn't going anywhere.
Wait until you see how the utility companies plan to fight all of us who’ve stockpiled the old bulbs!
They will calculate your past electricity use and estimate the “savings” you “should” have with the new bulbs.
If the numbers don’t come down, you pay a fine...only they will call it a “premium”......
Ready to kick Obama out yet?
LLS
IIRC, it was proposed by a Republican (Fred Upton, I believe) and signed by Bush.
Bump
I thought it the bill to repeal was voted down because Boehner set it up so that it needed 2/3 majority to pass. Was it revisited?
My daughter had one of those twisty bulbs in a lamp in her baby’s room. One day it just exploded sending glass and God knows what all over the room.
Will the House Chamber be using those bulbs? How about the White House?

Did she call hazmat to come clean it up?
From what I read 100W bulbs are banned next year and others banned in 2013 but it may just be the manufacture and not the sale but if imports are not allowed it is near the same.
Accepted green bulbs cost $50 vs 40 cent >100x more am mercury in them makes them toxic.
Stock up now! Sell them on ebay for 4X what you bought them.
Boy...are you behind on this.
The ban was signed into law under President Bush.
The attempt to repeal was all just smoke and mirrors.
I don’t know all the details of this particular issue but it works basically like this.
People in congress believe they are really smart. That is why they are in congress and we are really stupid, that’s why we are not in congress. Since they are so much smarter than us they must make our decisions for us even when it comes to something as minior as picking out a light bulb.
If you sell incandescent bulbs on Ebay, the envirostapo will be at your door the next day.
There was just a recall on those bulbs covering several years, seems the gule is defective and they just come unglued.......

I suggest we send our failed and broken CFL bulbs to our members of Congress. Of course we would likely have a visit from Homeland Security for sending hazardous materials to Congress critters. Perhaps just drop your burned out and broken CFLs off at your local Congressional field offices and let them deal with disposing them. Maybe someone would get the message then.
