Focus: The Economic Development Administration, U.S. Commerce Dept.

...the Senate is currently seeking to increase EDA funding to $500 million a year from $300 million. Worse, this bill passed out of a Senate authorization committee with unanimous, bipartisan support.

In April, the bureau reported that it gave a $2 million grant to build a "culinary amphitheater," wine tasting room, and gift shop at the Port of Benton and the Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center in Richland, Wash. The same month, it gave $1.5 million to promote tourism in the Northern Mariana Islands. In January, it spent $1 million on an "innovation conference center" in Arkansas to promote "cultural enrichment."

Hundreds of millions more wasted dollars for frivolous projects in the name of Economic Development. We cannot afford it. We must stop the economic destruction of our beloved nation.

Yesterday, we learned of $190 million in aid for Pakistani flood relief while U.S. tornado and flood destruction is piled for miles. Stop the madness.

Politicians say they want to cut waste and fraud and abuse.

They haven't the slightest desire to do so. This is how they buy votes. If they have to cut -- really have to cut -- they will cut the things that really matter. Painful cuts. Outrageous cuts. Cuts that get people into the streets demanding immediate increases in taxes so that the things that were just cut can be quickly restored.

But cutting wine tasting??? Why would they cut that?

You are right.

I still have a newspaper article from the early 70’s citing “The GAO slams a study for $950,000 that explores why Aborigines smell the way they do.”

No lie, I’ve saved the article forever.

They did nothing more than make noise then...they will do nothing more than make noise today.

Obviously the Fed doesn’t need to confiscate as much money as they are from the suffering slave taxpayers of the U.S. if they have to seek ways to spend what they strongarm from us.

Because it’s a limo lib activity. In 1980, John Anderson’s campaign around here consisted of wine and cheese tasting parties. Thanks NautiNurse.

Things haven't changed in Washington, obviously, because in the 80's there was a similar article about ridiculous govt. grants. I wish I had saved that as you did. But, I remember, in particular, one grant listed was to fund a study of The Sex Lives of Monkeys. At the time I was so outraged that I wrote a poem about it. I don't have the poem anymore, either, LOL.

Imagine. I am sure that was very important. Maybe for politicians the likes of Weiner, Clinton, Edwards, et al. I wonder if they were enticed with the study???

If you get hit by a tornado or flood, dig yourself out. Take care of your family and your property, and screw waiting around for a government hand-out.

How many lives were destroyed when people wasted away waiting for a government hand-out after Katrina. Pick up and move on with your life.
