Easter is Christ. How stupid.
If they had used Allah or Mohammed, it probably would have been ok.
I take it this occurred in California?
There seems to be no article, either here or at the links.
ALISO VIEJO Members of a local church are saying an ad for their Easter service was deemed too controversial to run because it named Jesus.
Pastor Mike Fabarez said Compass Bible Church tried to pay for an ad to run at a local movie theater for its annual Easter service at UC Irvine’s Bren Center, an event that draws about 5,000 people. The church typically advertises its large events, working with local television, print media and even placing ads on bus stop shelters.
This time, the ad was rejected, something Fabarez said he didn’t expect. A spokeswoman for NCM Media Networks, which handles advertising for many local theaters, said in a statement Compass Bible Church chose not to revise the ad to meet content guidelines.
Has anyone ever looked in the yellow pages to see how churches advertise themselves. Very few of them mention Jesus so why is this a big deal?
Biy YOU don’t know ANYTHING about Easter DO YOU? Easter is 100% Pagan and has NOTHING to do with Jesus’ Death, Burial or Resurrection. Easter was and is an old Roman “holiday”.
Thank you.
Compass Bible Church Banned Easter Commercial Covered by KABC News
Beyond stupid -- but the comments that moviegoers make to the news crew are beyond beyond stupid.
Must be something in the water in Orange county CA.
All very odd.
Speaking of Rome. Ever see an Italian Easter Egg? It says Buona Pasqua on it.
The "Die Sol Invictus" didn't exist until Aurelian promulgated it in the late 3rd century. Easter was already being celebrated.
Granted, the English word "Easter" is derived from the name of a British pagan goddess, Eostre, who gave her name to the month of April. That's according to Ven. Bede in his De temporum ratione. He's the only source, late 8th century, and by his time even the name of Eostre had died out. Obviously Christianity didn't originate in Britain, so that's just one of those accretions around the fringes of the late Empire. I wouldn't let it worry you too much.
It's not a particularly over the top or offensive ad, it's not in their written policy, the risk of offending people is greater by banning than if they just let it slide through.
Aggressive secularist in the advertising office? Dunno.
Close. Easter arose from events surrounding a couple of old Jewish holidaysPassover and the Sabbath. Those holidays are older than Rome itself.
Wha’d’ya know? Our society becomes more and more intolerant of the name of Jesus.
“Easter is 100% Pagan and has NOTHING to do with Jesus Death, Burial or Resurrection. “
I chalk it up to a past culture war that we won.
Excellent response and 100% correct.
Yes, it is confusing. Perhaps they’re worried that running the ad could provoke a militant “atheist” or Moslem to violence, while not running it would just make Christians sigh, and perhaps not buy a ticket once.
I hate having ads at the movie theater, on the rare occasions I go. You’ve already paid for the ticket! It’s like paying for cable tv and still having to watch commercials. (So we don’t.)
