Request to Japanese/Japan-based Freepers: What's best, fastest way to send aid to most affected?
self

Posted on 03/17/2011 6:30:25 AM PDT by quesney

To Japanese and Japan-based Freepers:

What's the best, quickest way of getting aid to people on the ground directly -- via local groups, religious instutitons, etc.

I'd rather not give it to an international bureaucracy like the Red Cross (Japanese website was confusing), other NGO's or government.

This is being posted Front/Breaking because I imagine a lot of other Freepers want this info and, let's face it, it's an emergency over there and these people need quick, effective help as soon as they can get it.

I've seen too many stories of waste, corruption and abuse (Haiti, Katrina, etc.) and would rather bypass this and get as big a share of every dollar to the people who need it now as soon as possible.

The Salvation Army has always been our family's favorite charity. When my parents arrived in New York Harbor on a cold November day, having escaped newly communist Czechoslovakia, they were greeted by the Salvation Army. Mom and Dad received their first cups of hot coffee in America from these wonderful people. They and their fellow passengers from war-devastated Europe were cold, seasick and scared.

Wonderful story...

Thank you,

I gave $150 to Caritas last week after getting the lead on FR. I am going to capture your post here and email it around.

Mission to the World, the missions arm of the Presbyterian Church of America, has been on the ground since the beginning.

Search keyword japandaniverson for daily FR updates.
Granted this is a smaller group, but they are fully engaged and in it for the long haul.

That's exactly why I would not donate to Haiti relief.... God knows where that money went and whose pockets were lined. It's my understanding that people are still living in camps there, so it obviously hasn't gone to rebuild.

I will be sending to Salvation Army on Friday. I donated money and clothing to them after Katrina and will do so this time as well. I feel much more comfortable not only with the SA, but I also feel that some random bureaucrat won't have his hand in the till as would happen in a country like Haiti.

Yep, SA was the only org to get my $$ for this effort.
They won’t divert your donation to sensitivity training or furthering a homogenda.

No nation is rich enough to deal with a nine-point earthquake without help. There were rich cities and nations before the flood too, and some of them are still sitting there beneath the waves:

Thank you Gary. It bothers me that you had to post that. We don’t give because others do. We give because we are compelled to out of compassion for our fellow man.

Folks, I’m not donating so much that I can’t donate more to U. S. causes. Get a grip.

Thanks Peter. My impression of the Red Cross is a very negative one. I appreciate your comments.

I doubt very seriously if they were first on the ground. Actually, I know they weren’t, there were specific CHRISTIAN groups which had people out there within hours. And why do you push getting more money for your particular religious group? I don’t see anyone pushing their particular missionary or mission group on the rest of us. Give to who you want, but keep your cult to yourself.

Thank you Mrs. Don-O. My church, the Seventh-Day Adventist church, has an international relief effort too.

It’s amazing how little credit these religious organizations get for all they do.
