Christie: My wife would kill me if I run for presidency By Sean J. Miller - 02/16/11 01:54 PM ET
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) said he doesnt feel ready to make a run for the White House and ruled out a bid in 2012.
Christie was in Washington on Wednesday for a speech to the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank.
He issued a sharp warning to Washington lawmakers that they can no longer ignore the growth of entitlement programs and the federal deficit. But the first question Christie got from reporters when his address ended was whether he would seek the presidency next year.
Well, that took a long time, didnt it?" the governor said.
"Listen, I threatened to commit suicide, I did, I said, 'what can I do short of suicide to convince people I'm not running?'" Christie said. "Apparently, I actually have to commit suicide to convince people Im not running."
He continued, "You have to feel in your heart and in your mind that youre ready for the presidency. And there are lots of people who will run just because the opportunity presents itself.
"That's not a reason to be president of the United States," Christie said. "You have to believe in your heart and in your soul and in your mind that you are ready and I dont believe that about myself right now. So thats why I said I wont run and I cant imagine that changing.
Christie said it wouldnt make his wife happy either.
"My wife would kill me," he said. "There's certain things that you know just will not be accepted and I think that's on the list."
He’s good at speachifying. He’s fine as governor of New Jersey - PERIOD.
I think all he hits are home runs. I hope people realize the whole “my wife would kill me” thing is a device. I had an old mentor used that trick all the time. It’s not so much a way to get off the hook as it is a way to build empathy and rapport. It shows you are a regular guy with regular problems. At least, I take it as a device. Maybe his wife WOULD kill him. Glad he’s staying here. I hope he turns down VP slot.
He ain’t just fine. He’s effin awesome.
What are we going to do with Christie? He will coronate anyone whose ticket he joins. That ticket will win in a heart beat. He could win if he didn’t even SHARE a ticket—just by himself he could win. He is the NEW fresh wave and a winner hands down. We need a winner. (In the general election, I mean.)
Now. That said, who is he? I mean where is the laundry list,
IN HIS OWN WORDS please, for which he stands? Where can that be found so we can see his prescriptions for and against this and that?
Just great! Another panty waist.
Cojones begin at home. Do we really want another leader who can’t stand up to his own wife (mother)?
It began with Adam, always blaming the wife.
I am a solid conservative, but Christie is winning me over. I have been around long enough and seen way too many conservatives compromise horrendously (both Bush’s, various Senators, and yes, even the Gipper) to be as bothered as I used to be about someone who may not be openly as conservative as I am. Christie speaks plain truth and he acts just exactly as he speaks. The national debt and deficit are the greatest dangers we face. The debt and deficit are symptoms of a lack of national self-discipline and will that affects the nation in many ways that we don’t even realize or completely understand. If we fix them, a lot of other problems, both fiscal and social, will be serendipitously fixed along the say. Everything starts with personal responsibility and Christie preaches it in spaces. It is time for tough love. I am thinking it may be time for Chris Christie. (He says he won’t do it, but he will if his country needs him. Coulter is right again.)
I agree, - No New England RINO’s in 2012 please.
“spaces” not “spaces”
“spades” not “spaces”
I liked his response to state legislators about the oogabooga stuff if he causes a shutdown. [paraphrased] “I’m not gonna get a cot in my office - I’m going home, order pizza and watch the game and wait for you asshats to decide when you’re ready to deal with our problems or just spend money.”
Honest Democrats with no debts to unions, societal leeches, and government job-fillers can be worked with. Problem is that there are virtually none left
I like the guy, but he’s still a RINO on key issues.
>My wife would kill me
The Secret Service covers that too ...
No one is as suited for a position of power than the one who looks at it as an awesome responsibility, rather than a chance to show one’s awesomeness.
This is where we need to be in America! We should be RECRUITING our Presidential nominees! We should not have to choose between the three idiots who think they should be President, the four has-beens that should have stayed retired, the one or two complete nutjobs and then the WORST idiot which the media really recommends for the GOP!
The more I see and hear him, the more I really like the sound of a Christie/Palin ticket! Everyone states that you MUST have someone that has worked in DC on the ticket! BS! It’s those idiots who have been in DC for the last ump-teen years that are mucking up the works!
Let’s get two, wholly-new breaths of fresh air!

If Hillary Clinton did this, we'd still want proof.....lol.
That said, sadly, I honest to God think that if Hillary Clinton did in fact commit suicide, a chunk of Freepers would still not be convinced that she wasn't still going to in fact, run for POTUS again......
Translation: ‘People, get off my back already, I ain’t runnin’.’
