Video Captured ‘Calculated’ Gunman in Tucson (Shows Judge Roll Dying Saving Giffords Employee)
New York Times ^ | Richard A.Oppel Jr

Posted on 01/19/2011 9:30:03 AM PST by lbryce

The chief investigator for the sheriff’s department here has for the first time publicly described the brief and gory video clip from a store security camera that shows a gunman not only shooting Representative Gabrielle Giffords just above the eyebrow at a range of three feet, but then using his 9-millimeter pistol to gun down others near her at a similarly close range.

The video, according to Richard Kastigar, the investigative and operational bureau chief of the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, also reveals that Judge John M. Roll appears to have died while helping to save the life of Ronald Barber, a Giffords employees. Mr. Barber, who was near Ms. Giffords when he was shot twice, has left the hospital.

Mr. Kastigar said Tuesday that the video shows Ms. Giffords standing with her back a few inches from a wall when she was shot by the gunman, who approached in “a hurried fashion” with the gun at his side and then raised it and fired a single bullet above her eye at a range of no more than two or three feet.

Jared L. Loughner, 22, has been arrested in the shootings. In the video, the pistol “is down near his right side, but it is visibly out from where he was keeping it, presumably under his clothing, and then he raises it and fires,” Mr. Kastigar said. “It happens in a matter of seconds.”

The gunman “was very deliberate in my estimation, very calculated,” said Mr. Kastigar, who viewed the video as part of the extensive investigation by the Sheriff’s Department that involves close to 250 people. About 200 F.B.I. agents and analysts are also on the case. The video, he said, is now in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

It seems like Obama will get to nominate his replacement. That is disappointing to say the least.

“staunch conservative” Really?

He let illegal invaders sue a landowner who was trying to protect his family and living. Give me a break.

The same leftist vermin who decried Laughner as a right wing terrorist will defend his “rights” in court. They never cared about the victims and will always put their self-righteousness and selfishness above the lives of human beings. The emotion they felt that day was delight at finding an opportunity to attack their political opponents.

I never stop being amazed at how these worthless despicable animals keep their useless lives while great men like Judge Roll get killed.

The gunman “was very deliberate in my estimation, very calculated,” said Mr. Kastigar ..."

Loughner may be whacked, but is he whacked enough that he couldn't understand that what he was doing was wrong? I doubt it, and in my opinion he's liable for first-degree murder.

Yep - he left plenty of ‘tracks’ which show premeditation.

There is supposedly a lot of video. I wonder if any shows Fuller being shot. Something about that guy reeks.

I had second thoughts about including the description of him as “staunch republican” as he is universally acknowledged in any article, reference about him, knowing fully well that there’s going to be those who will take umbrage for including his conservative credentials in my comment. You’ve proven me right. Kindly do a search on Judge M. Roll and please let me know what you turn up. Thank You.

"200 F.B.I. agents and analysts are also on the case. "

Slight Overkill IMHO.

The case against the perp seems pretty easy. The only place to load up on evidence is against the insanity defense, if they are interested.

I did the day of the shooting. Here is all i needed to know:

Roll himself had been the subject of death threats in 2009, when he presided over a $32 million civil-rights lawsuit filed by illegal immigrants against an Arizona rancher, the Arizona Republic reported.

When Roll ruled the case could go forward, he received more than 200 calls from members of the public in a single afternoon, the newspaper quoted U.S. Marshal for Arizona David Gonzales as saying.

Yes I agree. There have been so many news articles describing the late judge as a "conservative", however his most recently noteworthy ruling (think it was 2005) was regarding the Arizona rancher whose land had been continually overrun by hordes of illegal aliens crossing the border illegally. When the rancher began to apprehend the illegals, they collectively brought suit against the rancher, most likely through the efforts of a group such as La Raza. This judge ruled in favor of the illegal aliens, and against the rightful landowner and U.S. citizen. I don't understand why he did not rule that the illegal aliens, as Mexican illegals, had no standing to file suit in a U.S. court against a U.S. citizen, since they were present in the U.S illegally and were not U.S. citizens, so therefore not entitled to a constitutional redress of grievances. Why the courts and the press continue to assume that anyone who is standing on U.S. soil is ipso facto entitled to all of the rights and privileges of U.S. citizenship just astounds me. Many questions about this case have gone unanswered.

Here's a NEWSFLASH for you;

Because America is a Nation of Laws and everyone (even a psychopath like Jared Loughner) is covered under the Constitution and has the Right to Due Process and a fair trial.

Don’t forget the speedy part that is supposed to be in there on a trial. Lets hope it doesn’t drag on and on. IIRC the Oklahoma City bombers were tried and executed “fairly” quickly under Clinton, and without the quick capture and obvious, straight-forward evidence that this mass murder has. Something tells me this trial will reach its peak around, oh, say October 23rd, 2012.
