'All Hell' breaking loose in Senate over budget

An unidentified GOP source told Fox News Tuesday that "All hell is breaking loose" in the Senate over a 1,924-page spending bill that includes 20,000 earmark requests.

Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) and Jim DeMint (R-SC) will likely demand the omnibus bill be read in its entirety on the Senate floor prior to a vote.

Fox News reported the bill - described as "a total mess" - is intended to cover the rest of the current fiscal year. If passed, the bill would become law without any debate in the Senate.

Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-HI), Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, said the bill must pass:

"The twelve bills included in this package fulfill the Congress' most basic responsibility, to exercise the power of the purse," he said in a statement. "This measure reflects a year's worth of work by members of both parties. Together, we have closely scrutinized the president's budget request, held hundreds of hearings, thousands of meetings, and asked literally tens of thousands of questions to each and every federal department and agency seeking justification for how taxpayer dollars are being spent."

But in a statement released Tuesday, John Cornyn (R-TX) said the Democrats - who still control both chambers of Congress - have "already forgotten the voters' message in November."

John McCain echoed that sentiment, saying:

“That omnibus bill will be loaded down with earmarks and pork barrel spending, which is a direct — a direct — betrayal of the majority of voters on Nov. 2 who said ‘Stop the earmarking, stop the spending, stop the pork barrel projects"

Not if the majority of the military feel that Obama is not a legitimate president.

Wouldn’t want to bank on that in the heat of the moment, and with the military under orders to put down a revolution. The populace is with the complicity of the congress, severely underarmed, as should not be, but is.

I wonder if we shot a couple of them if we could get them to change their behavior?

Been my impression all along. The only thing that will tame them. After that, putting them back in the box, cutting off their purse strings, and then gutting the government. If it means no SS for a couple of years so be it, we will quickly turn the country around.

Any senator and representative who votes in favor of this legislation should be voted out of office as soon as possible.

Wow. How could 100 Senators have written 20,000 earmarks so fast? Especially when they only work 3 days a week.

They must be able to write with both hands. After all, they can all speak out of both sides of their mouths.

KILL THE BILL. It will be impossible to undo in 2011 because the Senate will not override the veto. It must be stopped and let the 112th follow the will of the people as expressed on Nov 2nd.

Longer term, limits must be placed on the lame duck Congress' ability to legislate on non-emergency business.

Boehner and McConnell will let this pass and be back in January for business as usual.

The leadership of both parties remains the same as the leadership we had before the November election. The leadership controls the agenda. Until it changes, Congress will carry on as usual

I understand the monstanto food bill is rolled into it. I wouldn't be surprised if DREAM was buried in it somewhere, too. It's a nightmare that just won't quit.

It's so true ... garbage in, garbage out.

They’re having a bit of pay back at our expense and we had better see that the ones who come back next year are reminded of this in 2012 by being ousted.
