Democrat Daniel Inouye has represented Hawaii in the U.S. Senate for 47 years, and he now holds a 13-point lead over Republican challenger Cam Cavasso in his bid for another six-year term.
The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state shows Inouye picking up 53% of the vote, while Cavasso, a former member of the states House of Representatives captures 40%. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

I wouldn't bet on an upset in this race, but it is still possible. Anybody following this race who can provide insight?
At the least, hopefully the Dems will now have to waste money on this race.
Never expected this one to be in the mix.
Isn’t he like 1000 years old?
A case for term limits if I ever heard one.
Wow, Daniel Inouye has slipped in the polls, though still comfortably ahead. Maybe he’s being affected by other competitive races in the state. In the Honolulu Congressional race, Charles Djou has pulled slightly ahead and in the Governor race, Duke Aiona has pulled almost even.
LOL - if Uncle Dan goes down, it will be snowing here in Waipahu (if hell freezes over, I imagine even paradise will get a little sleet)
the governor of hawaii Lingle should have run for Senate. She is running against Akaka in 2012
If I were Inouye’s age, I wouldn’t be buying green bananas never mind running for another term. Even if Cavasso only gets close this time, when Inouye does his best Sheets Byrd impression next year, this seat might be picked up in a special election.
I think Inouye is Robery Kiyosaki’s Poor Dad....or is he his Rich Dad....probably the poor one since he needs to work into his 90’s.
Hey, isn’t that where obama claims he was born?????
Lingle’s smart. She knows she’ll have a better chance against Akaka in 2012 than against Inouye. Akaka shouldn’t have won last time - his age was definitely showing during the debate. Obviously just reading his cue cards. In 2 more years I hope he still recognizes family. Though considering Mink got elected even after she died, even that might not dissuade the union gangs from forcing the vote to go D.
Daniel Inouye is s true American hero. He left an arm in Europe during World War II. But the time comes for even heroes to step aside. As one of the greatest generation, surely Inouye knows this. He should retire gracefully with a nation’s heartfelt thanks for his courage, sacrifice, and service.
Perhaps race is the reason Inouye (Asian) is ahead:
1. Honolulu 56%
2. Hilo 38%
3. Kailua (Honolulu County) 21%
4. Kaneohe 38%
5. Waipahu 66%
6. Pearl City 53%
7. Waimalu 55%
8. Mililani Town 47%
9. Kahului 54%
10. Kihei 25%
It’s time for heroes to leave the Jackass Party.
Inouye indeed is a true American hero. He was part of the most decorated BN in American history...but he has to step aside and retire. That’s why I despise long-term incumbents because they think they should be emperor for life.
He was upgraded to a Medal of Honor under Clinton.
Also----"1992 The Republican opponent of Senator Daniel Inouye (D. HI) ran an ad during the 1992 Senate race that contained a secretly-taped conversation with Lenore Kwock, who was Inouye's long-time hairdresser. Kwock said that, in 1975, Inouye had sexually forced himself on her, and continued to sexually harass her whenever she cut his hair. When Kwock said that the campaign ads were causing her more hurt than Senator Inouye ever had, they were pulled. But a female Democratic state legislator soon reported she had received calls from nine other women who claimed that Inouye had sexually harassed them. In a move that looked like it might have been dictated by higher Democratic state officials, the state legislator withdrew her charge, saying that it had been wrong to make the charge with anonymous women complaining. She did not say the complaints were not true. However, the Senate Ethics Committee dropped the matter when none of the accusers were willing to assist with their inquiry, and the matter died."
There may be a chance for us in this one.
As much as I respect Daniel Inoye’s SACRIFICE and duty to our country, don’t you think it is about time to hang it up and pass the torch to a younger generation.
What does he want to do, die in his office?? Talk about not wanting to let go of power...
He will not last 6 years. Nor will the other one. The Crats have a few Zombies out there that will Kak before the next election.
I was in Molokai and saw him at a rally. He actually came out and sang and played a Uke. The locals love the old guy.
