Could Kirsten Gillibrand Lose in New York?
Real Clear Politics ^ | October 4, 2010 | Sean Trende

If you've been following the New York Senate polls closely for the last year, you've noticed that Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has been hovering around 50 percent for most of the past two years. This is dangerous territory for any incumbent to be in - by my count, only three incumbents in the last three years who averaged less than 50 percent in August polling have gone on to win in November...

--snip--

Conclusion
DioGuardi isn't likely to win, but it certainly is possible. The SurveyUSA poll is a best-case scenario for DioGuardi among current polling, but it nevertheless depicts a realistic scenario for him to get within a point of Gillibrand with the present electorate. Of course, his "reward" for winning this race would be to run again two years later, against a Democratic opponent approved by the Democratic Party, with Barack Obama at the top of the ticket.

I'm not so sure Obama will be on the ticket in 2012. He might be primaried or just decide not to run.

Here's the regular webpage with a table on the recent history of NYC voting and two very interesting maps that didn't appear on the originally linked, printer friendly version.

Here's why to vote for Dioguardi: any Supreme Court vacancy that could happen before the rats leave the White House. We know Gillibrand voted to confirm Sotomayor and Kagan, two hard leftwing, gun grabbing activists despite Gillibrand's excellent prior NRA rating in the House. Here are more reasons to vote against Gillibrand.

If Democrats lose in NY and CA they should have to shoot their leadership.

This is the race that I want the Democrats to lose more than any other. I would pick this race over many others if I could guarantee a win for this state.

Does DioGuardi have it in him to speak out like Carl Paladino?

Joe DioGuardi strikes me as a mild mannered CPA, aren’t they all, who is dead serious about the national debt.

If we had more CPA’s and fewer lawyers in office we would be in this mess.

RE: his last name really helps too.

I don’t think his daughter is on the campaign trail for him (unlike Scott Brown’s daughter, Ayla, who was very active ).

Anyway, American Idol aside, I believe Joe DioGuardi is one of the very few politicians who has a FIRM GRASP of the financial and demographic meltdown this country is facing with Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid and our humongous national debt.

I heard him interviewed twice — once on the John Gambling drive time show at WABC and Curtis Sliwa’s morning show.

We absolutely MUST HAVE someone like DioGuardi in the legislature. As far as I know, only he and Paul Ryan have proposed plans to deal with this demographic time bomb we have facing us.

I know they meant “reward” to be sarcastic here, but that race might be a cakewalk the way things are going.

If the demonRATS vote, like you post, post post, they can't lose, lose, lose.

Don't keep hitting, hitting, hitting, the post button.

I don't think so, IMHO, although I think it could help him if he did. Gilli has a lot of dirt in her backround.

Could Democrat apathy be a factor in this and other contests in NY? The local know-it-alls all claim Cuomo’s most certainly the next governor. What percent of NY Dems feels secure that everything is sewn up? Apathetic, unmotivated Dems may make this closer than anyone is willing to admit.

Having vented their spleens in the Primary, do too many NY Dems feels secure that everything is sewn up? Add to that their general disappointment with and/or indifference toward Obama.

Apathetic, unmotivated Dems may make this closer than anyone is willing to admit.

I’ve met Joe, and mild-mannered is not the way I would describe him. A little ball of fire seems more descriptive of Joe DioGuardi, unless he’s mellowed with age.
