Nazi Germany landed eight saboteurs in America on a secret mission to destroy targets across the U.S., a documentary has revealed.

U-boats dropped the men off the beaches of Long Island and Florida at the height of the Second World War.

The first group of four men - carrying armfuls of weapons, explosives and primers - came ashore near Manhattan on June 13, 1942.

I’m surprised this story wasn’t turned into a movie. Hoover did diddly on this case, the Germans that turned themselves in gave Hoover the Glory. Landed near Manhattan makes it sound like the U boat dropped them off under the Queens Borough Bridge. The landing sight if I remember correctly was in the Morriches area, towards the Hamptons.

Every week we have boat loads of illegal immigrants landing on our beaches here in San Diego County. I watched one boat that was captured by the USCG while I walked my dog. That one had more than people they had 1500 pounds of pot. It could have been explosives and weapons. Is our border secure..no.

this is a historical fact on which there has been much written. I have heard the story as long as I can remember.

I also remember the a dark coastline as no lights were permitted, Coast guardsmen patrolling the beaches with Dobermans and civilian volunteers at strategic places along the coast with binoculars keeping their eyes peeled on the ocean searching for submarines and aircraft.

Exactly - my Dad see’s the same thing in Florida - boatloads of illegals landing ashore and then running for the highway when their feet hit land. It’s ridiculous.

This attempt was hapless, as the article mentions, one of the saboteurs turned himself in and informed on the others, who were meanwhile doing nothing worse than having a low brow good time in Manhattan. The whole thing was ill starred from the beginning. Not so Germany's earlier attack on New York in WWI, however, which was spectacularly successful. .... Google Black Tom

Many captured and recovered U-Boats had American provisions on board, as well as real and counterfeit U.S. currency. German submariners would often sneak ashore and go grocery shopping to replenish the ship's galley.
