If you died today, what would happen to you?
Why should God let you into Heaven? If you answer that you think you are good enough, I ask you: upon what authority do you make that judgment, or assume that such good works are the criteria God uses?
A perfect, holy, just God cannot overlook sin. It must be punished. But a perfectly loving God would also provide a way to reconcile sinful humanity to Himself, by taking on the punishment Himself. That’s why Jesus became man, and died for our sins on the cross.
All we need to do is repent and accept Him as Savior and Lord. Saviour, because He has taken our place to bear our just punishment. Lord, because to allow us into Heaven without submitting ourselves would negate the very goodness and harmony of Heaven. This doesn’t mean giving up freedom, unless you mean the freedom to be a slave to sinful appetites. (If God wanted us to be mindless robots, he could easily have made us that way. So no fear on that point.)
I’m looking forward to meeting you in Heaven. May God bless you and keep you. Ephesians 2:8-9.
