I was a member of the NYPD on 9/11 and worked at Ground Zero. We lost 23 people several of which I knew personally.
#1- The site is not being built AT Ground Zero. It’s two blocks north of the outer perimeter of the WTC complex. It would be inappropriate to build a religious structure devoted to only one religion at the site since people from a multitude of religions were murdered. I think it would be particularly inappropriate to build an Islamic house of worship on the site itself but aas I stated that’s not the case.
#2- How far the the mosque free zone extend? Two blocks? Five blocks? Canal Street? Beyond normal zoning regulations do conservatives want the government dictating where religious institutions can be built.
#3- You want to go to a house of worship on your lunch hour. The Christian can go to St. Peters or Trinity Church. Theres Wall St. Synagogue. What do you tell a Muslim of which there are quite are few working in Lower Manhattan? This is a mosque free zone???
In America?
Yea, I know about Saudi Arabia and their proscriptions against other religions. The Islamic fascists in Saudi Arabia are a standard of conduct for our country???
You dont beat them by becoming like them.
You really want the government deciding where religious buildings should be constructed?
Thats not conservatism.
>> We all know that they have the right to do it,
They do NOT have the “Right” to build it!!!
Thanks for adding that article to this thread. The writer wants the mosque to be built. No surprise there, and we know why: It’s a marker fof victory.
I don’t like this one sentence either:
“The response of the US leadership will be watched closely around the world, especially by Muslims.”
Screw the current leadership. The mosque won’t be built in a day. Just watch the next leadership and I pray it’s Sarah Palin.
you have got to be kidding me?
LOL.
Palin knows how this is playing in Michigan, Peoria, and Western Pennsylvania.
Ah! Thanks, Chris!
LOL. “Dumplin ears”! He’s busy today on a 12 hour vacation to the Gulf before he takes off for a 2 weeker to Martha’s Vineyard.
Ya think he’s been apprised of Sarah’s FaceBook entry? LOL.
You are right, they don’t have the right to build it.
I-81 in Pennsylvania ... they have two, one on each side.
The point of siting the mosque there is to declare victory over the U.S. at the battle of 911. Its that simple and THAT is the reason for the opposition.
Additionally, it is the goal of Muslims to dominate the world and demand everyone convert, pay tribute, or die, they have stated so, they have acted so, and they will continue on so. All you have to do is look at Muslim countries and not that they do not allow the practice of any other religion. That is EXACTLY what they are attempting to do in the western world and will succeed unless we vehemently oppose them. The ground zero mosque is an extrememly important point of opposition.
Tolerance is a great thing, but tolerance to the point of self destruction is just plain stupid.
“You really want the government deciding where religious buildings should be constructed?”
They do. It’s called ZONING.
Will you add me to the Palin Ping list? Thanks!!
They do it all of the time.
Ever hear of zoning laws, permits, greasing the local pols to get it built?
But in this case, they're bending over, or should I say, America is bending over to get it done.
This is nothing more than an islamic symbol of conquest, if you don't get that, you're very naive.
I-81 is my favorite highway to drive on with respect to scenery - especially the stretch between Scranton, PA and Knoxville, TN - endless farmlands, misty mountain ranges and more Waffle Houses than you can count. The real America. (You have to be listening to country music when making this drive as well.)

I’m sorry for your loss and thank you for your service in your line of duty on that day and the days following. Your life was spared, praise the Lord.
The mosque is a marker of victory, and the location is likely as near to Ground Zero as the Imam could find.
The mosque isn’t about the free practice of religion, nor is it a “litmus test” for American “tolerance and good will.” There’s several mosques in NYC, and “tolerance and good will” work both ways. The Imam is counting on people like you, to blur common sense and reason, into a mushy sense of “acceptance of some lofty claim of good will, peace and understanding,” while he and his radicals laugh at you and yours.
They came here to conquer and you want to lie down. Not me. No thanks. I’ll go down fighting. At least I know the enemy.
BTW, How’s the rebuilding of the Greek church coming along that was destroyed near Ground Zero?
An orthodox Church was destroyed on 9/11. I hear they are having as time getting a permit to rebuild. Maybe the Muslims should fund the rebuilding of that Church as a sign of sincerity. Fat chance, right?
I never tire of this phrase: “She’s living rent-free in Obama’s head!”
