About 50 travellers (gypsies) armed with iron bars and hatchets have rioted in the small town of Saint-Aignan in central France after police shot a man dead.
Violence erupted when the crowd, some of them masked, tried to force their way into a police station in the town in the Loir-et-Cher region.
In the ensuing riot, a bakery was trashed, three cars torched and trees, traffic lights and road signs damaged.

Nobody is believed to have been hurt during the incident, which appears to have no connection with rioting in the eastern city of Grenoble over the weekend, which began after police shot dead an armed robbery suspect there.

At Saint-Aignan, the travellers were protesting at the death of a 22-year-old man shot by police, reportedly as he tried to run down two of their officers.
Prosecutors say the man failed to stop his vehicle at a checkpoint and dragged a gendarme on the bonnet for 500 metres (yards). The gendarme escaped with light injuries.
The confrontation lasted some four hours before the rioters left town, France's L'Express newspaper reports.

“travellers” rioted...is THAT what they’re calling muslim extremists now? How politically correct (sarc).
Not the same, these are gypsies, you would have known that had you read the article.
These people are more probably Christian. The political correctness here surprised me too, however: Gypsies prefer to be called Roma.
The way the article put it, it sounded like a bunch of angry tourists.
Gypsies, Roma, Yeniche are Christian? Seriously?
Roma in Russia, for instance, are Christian, as are those in Spain. Some of them in the Balkans adopted Islam.

Those cops better be careful not to eat any pies sent to them anonymously.
They might find themselves getting thinner.
I thought so too: before clicking on the link I expected a report about a bunch of angry Germans (I'd previously heard Muslims referred to as "youths" but not Roma as "tourists"). And I was thinking, how could tourists be so organized, coordinated and angry to attack a police station in a foreign country?
Silly me.
“Travellers” Is a term I have only heard used for the Irish Travellers. They are all over Great Briton and large groups of them have come to America too. They are similar to gypsies, but ethnic Irish. Wherever they go trouble follows. Google Irish travellers to learn more if you are interested.
A bunch of them settled in S. Carolina. They travel all over the southern states. Home improvement scams are a specialty. They’ll offer to fix your driveway or repair your roof for way less than the going rate. They’ll do a fake repair job, change the amount on your check, or both.
Gee, multiculturalism is such a successful policy in Europe. Oh, wait...
I added the term “gypsies” in parentheses for anyone unfamiliar with the term “traveller”
But these in France are probably more like the traditional Roma, who originated in India and have been living on the edges of European society for centuries. They were one of the groups Hitler tried very hard to wipe out in the Holocaust.

Sounds to me like they should have shot a lot more of them dead. Riots usually stop real fast when the front row is dropped on the spot.
The US “travellers” are a different group. Still totally criminal and living on fraud, however...
These are probably Balkans gypsies. The older gypsy communities do not like them because they are much more aggressive and don’t even pretend to do anything legal for a living.
In Spain, when you see “rumanos,” Romanians, you know they’re really talking about gypsies from Eastern Europe. Once upon a time, many came from Rumania, but now it’s a sort of catch-all term. And many Balkans gypsies are Muslim, which prevents them from fitting in with local gypsies, who are generally Christian.
I would not say they are Christian at all, unless one would say the mafia is Christian. This is a creepy, roaming criminal gang. It has nothing to do with religion.
