Republican leaders were quoted as calling this a “crappie” idea and that they would let the idea “flounder”.

Obama, citing congressional opposition, said the “halibut”, we’ll appoint one anyways.

Then here is the solution. Instead of wasting money on a government project that does little to nothing, offer a per fish bounty on the fish. This would create more jobs in the great lakes than the Stimulus will.

You’ll find that some of FR’s less than deep thinkers will be fine with destroying the ecosystem and the billions of dollars in revenue it generates. (a 7 billion dollar sportfishing industry in Michigan alone)

Michigan alone once had the worlds largest freshwater commercial fishing industry but the sea lamprey wiped that out with help from environmentalists and assorted greentards.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin today urged President Obama to appoint a carp czar

Yeah, well I suppose that's fine as far as it goes, but the first question that occurred to me is, "Are there any Progressive carp czars out there"?

But, but, but, what's the difference between a Progressive carp czar and just a plain ol' run of the mill carp czars, you might ask? Well, a Progressive carp czar will put up little underwater signs that say: "Warning, this area infested by Asian carp, U.S. carp stay away."

Also, lame attempts will be made to net Asian carp by Federally licensed fishermen in a humane way with Federally approved humane nets and flown back to Asia to be released there. If any are hurt in the process, the fishermen will be prosecuted and put in jail. Also, any Asian carp caught by State authorities and turned over to the Federal fishermen will be released back into U.S. lakes, because clearly the State authorities are catching Asian carp simply because they wish to discriminate against Asian carp because they are gold-colored.

And lastly, measures will be put in place for the Asian carp that don't get netted to make sure they have equal feeding opportunities relative to U.S. carp.

I checked the source article to make sure this wasn’t satire. I’m still not sure.

The fisherpeople wouldn’t be fast enough. The fish need to be stopped NOW, but dear golfer and friends are busy suing Arizona for enforcing the law.

I’ll bet its a typo, he probably meant “crap” instead of “carp” ... easy mistake to make. And we really do need a czar for that.

I agree the Carp Czar idea is a joke ... but look who proposed it.

The problem with these carp is they can eat 90% of their body weight a day and a female can produce 22 million eggs. And they are huge, up to 6o lbs. A lot of people bowfish them or snag for them. There videos on the net where the air around a boat is literally filled with these monsters. One couldn’t miss if they tried. Also they jump right into moving boats. I don’t imagine getting hit in the head or chest by a 40 lb. fish in a boat moving 30mph is a whole lot of fun.

Don’t have any answers but they are big problem on the Illinois River.

The Asian carp have ravenous appetites, have no natural predators, and have high reproduction rates...Their habits will destroy the Great Lakes ecosystem because other creatures will starve.

And a quote from 1987: "The Zebra Mussel have ravenous appetites, have no natural predators, and have high reproduction rates...Their habits will destroy the Great Lakes ecosystem because other creatures will starve.

the first question that occurred to me is, "Are there any Progressive carp czars out there"?

Well, he or she will have to remember that diversity is our most important product and that any profiling of the Asian bugle mouth bass will be verboten.

I presume that there will be efforts to sign up the Asian carp for welfare, given that they are undocumented fish far from home.

Any attempts to enforce and guard the borders, be they hydrological, rheological, or whatever logical must be looked on with disdain by FICE (the F stands for Fish ... or whatever comes to mind).

Florida is full of invasive species due to laws allowing irresponsible people to bring exotic animals into the country. These invaders are destroying the delicate ecosystem. Pythons, boa constrictors, monitor lizards, iguanas, walking catfish just to name a few. It is likely only a matter of time before we’ll be facing and exploding population of cobras and other deadly snakes.

I heard that a fisherman dropped his wallet in the water and it was picked up by a carp, who spit it out and it was picked up by another carp, who also spit the wallet out and it was picked up by still another carp. This was the first recorded instance of carp-to-carp walleting.
