Elizabeth Collins has blogged for more than two years about her personal life and experiences as a teacher. One Saturday in February, she posted her thoughts about a student's presentation in her English class at the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, an all-girls private school in Villanova. She criticized its tone and political outlook.
The student's parents took quick exception to that post, telling the school that even though the blog did not identify their daughter by name, it was aimed at her and was an "attack on a child."
The exchange triggered a chain of events that ended with the academy's dismissing Collins in late April.
Collins said she merely used the incident to make a point about teaching methods, but ended up being singled out for her political views.
"I did nothing wrong at any time," she wrote...
*snip*
The next day, Collins received an e-mail from the student's parents, James J. White IV and Megan White. Saying there "may be some mix-up with the tone of your blog and the actual class that you are teaching," they requested a conference and asked, "If this had been an overly liberal paper, would our daughter have been the subject of your blog?"
Their e-mail also questioned two previous, unrelated incidents in Collins' class. "Earlier in the year, we did let the comment go about marriage and the taking of your husband's last name," though it was an "unnecessary comment to make to the girls and had little or nothing to do with English," it said. "Later, we were all exposed to your very strong feelings about the health-care proposal. . . . Another platform that neither of us felt was necessary for the classroom."

See school bus incident where bull dyke driver has an 8 YO child in tears for opposing deviant behavior. go figure.
Well I guess you find overly sensitive parents no mater what side of the political spectrum they are on.
Wouln’t happen in a public school...................
I am glad the parents defended their daughter. So many teachers today try to assert their liberalism on their students. Case in point: my son had an Honors English teacher who announced to the class she was a socialist. During a discussion of WWII, she said that Hitler “didn’t have anything against the Jews... It was a political move”. My son being outraged stood up and said “you can’t murder millions of people and say that it is a political move not motivated by hate”. She threatened to send him to the office and he said “I stand by my convictions”. I have never been prouder. If you don’t have children especially in today’s public schools, you would be very surprised to know how many times conservative values and beliefs are ridiculed by the teacher. Not all but enough of them to be a huge issue.
She is a lot more intent on political indoctrination than on education.
On the one hand, it sounded like the student ignored the purpose of the assignment. On the other, it sounds like the teacher was more interested in indoctrinating her students into her own liberalism than she was in teaching English.
Homeschool bump.
If this had been a public school, she'd still be there indoctrinating the kids, and the teachers' union would be all over the parents and the school district. Also: If the essay had been entitled "Bush Lies," the child would have received an A, an award for excellence, and a scholarship.
if she were a public school teacher the worst she’d get would be fully paid administrative leave while the school board went through the motions of some vain attempt to try and fire her.
I think people who blog about their personal life are idiots. A lot of the Facebook stuff is also idiocy. I can see an expert in an industry or something but a school teacher who probably has three friends.
How dare these people demand to have some control over what their children are taught. Just who do they think they are to try and oppose the doctrine of lefthink!
/sarcasm
What country has this dingbat been living in for the last year?
Teacher complains about being fired for her political views yet she sees no problem in criticizing her student’s political views in her blog.
Amen to that.
Hope this lib does not return to any indoctrination program of young people! She is dangerous and has MAN hands!
Facebook = boring
Freep the poll at article’s end.
