Some Orthodox leaders and scholars have argued that same-sex civil unions, while not recognized and blessed by the Orthodox Church, should nevertheless be accepted and protected by the state in the spirit of democracy. [...]
These positions seem to present a fair and reasonable perspective that maintains a balance between the Orthodox Churchs unwavering support for traditional marriage and her absolute rejection of all homosexual unions, and the secular and democratic society we live in. On closer inspection however, the reality of such moderated and accommodating views exposes a danger that may not have been considered when such support was given for these legalized civil unions.

Seems a little strained when you consider that common-law marraige pre-dates the Church.

Why can’t these people just write up a Contract Agreement or something?
Oh right. They want to destroy the meaning of words and the institution of marriage.

Good point. They can accomplish the same thing via a contract, but instead ask for equal “marriage” rights.

I never understood the whining either. I mean you can leave your estate to a CAT for heaven’s sake. There is NO hospital that will “forbid” some gay from seeing his lover, NOT ONE.

Once such civil unions are given any legal standing, other states and even the federal government will quickly follow the legal precedents set in Massachusetts and DC. The state can then compel all religious institutions that support traditional marriage in their social services to either recognize same-sex unions and act contrary to their religious and moral beliefs, or cease operations altogether. These legalized civil unions are the unfortunate stepping stones the state has and will use to promote an anti-Christian and anti-traditional marriage agenda to the society at large, to the detriment of innocent children and traditional couples looking to adopt. Quite correct.

I don’t know, say for instance one fdrq is in the hospital dying of AIDS, were there cases that his bf was not able to see him in the ICU? I never heard of such stories. The story I saw went like this, that bf got sick and died, gay live-in bf was persona non grata with the surviving family and got shut out of a) the funeral solemnities and b) decedent's property.
Many cries of injustice, prejudice, and narrow, phobic hatefulness. It was never discussed in the typical story whether complaining survivor bf was the person who gave the decedent AIDS, or why, if he provably were not, the family should be glad to see him as an exponent of the community that killed their son/kinsman.
What is "fdrq"?
