[As background for this article, it would be helpful to read these previous posts: Palin's Choice: An Afterword, The saving grace of the republican imperative, Guaranteeing republican government-a little dialogue, Is Palin's lead a pitfall for the pro-life cause?, Sarah Palin-Personally pro-life, but...?, and Kentucky's Bill Johnson-a thoroughbred conservative for the U.S. Senate.]
I was with Kentucky U.S. Senate candidate Bill Johnson when the news came that Sarah Palin had endorsed one of Bill's opponents, Rand Paul, in the race for the Republican nomination. We were in the Student Center cafeteria taking time out for a little refreshment after speaking to a group of pro-life students at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. After he received the report by cell phone Bill filled me in on the details, which were later confirmed by new reports such as this one found on WHAS11.com.
"US Senate candidate Rand Paul tells WHAS11's Joe Arnold that Sarah Palin is endorsing his campaign. "It's huge," Paul said, adding that he has never spoken to the former Alaska Governor and 2008 Republican Vice-presidential nominee. In her endorsement statement Palin says "I'm proud to support great grassroots candidates like Dr. Paul. While there are issues we disagree on, he and I are both in agreement that it's time to shake up the status quo in Washington and stand up for common sense ideas."

Earth to Alan Keyes.
Earth to Alan Keyes.
You aren’t doing anything to help your credibility with these over the top accusations.

She really shouldn’t be supporting anyone in a primary and especially not someone who is pro-choice. Someone with a pulse should be advising her before she loses her base.

Rand Paul is solidly Pro-Life. He supports overturning Roe V Wade. What more does Alan Keyes the man with a big ego and can’t win a thing want? I’m getting really tired of conservatives slandering each other over who is Pro-Life enough. It is stupid. You are on the same team so find something substantive to disagree on.

Received this yesterday from Bill Johnson:
BILL JOHNSON FOR U.S. SENATE
February 3, 2010
Contact: Bill Johnson
bill@kentuckybill.com
ELKTON — Kentucky GOP Senate Candidate Bill Johnson today issued the following statement about the Sarah Palin endorsement:
“According to reporting by several sources, Sarah Palin disagrees with Mr. Paul on some issues, Mr. Paul has never spoken to the Governor, and $2000 changed hands. Frankly, it appears like typical Washington behavior by two individuals claiming to be outside of politics as usual.
“While I respect Sarah Palin for her personal choices, I stand in disagreement with her and Mr. Paul’s public policy position of letting the states decide the issue of abortion. This is simply pro-choice for states. Instead, we need to protect our God-given unalienable right to life at all levels of government, including the federal level.
“It lacks honor to base an endorsement primarily on ‘shaking things up in Washington.’ We already have enough of the wrong kind of shake from the Washington Democrats and Libertarians. Instead, we need to elect principled leadership on the issues and chart a course back to the Ronald Reagan conservative platform.”

Palin's endorsement of Rand Paul confirms that, though personally pro-life she is pro-choice on respect for the unalienable right to life as a matter of constitutional law and public policy. By promoting the demonstrably false notion that state governments can legitimately decide to permit the murder of innocent life, politicians like Rand Paul, Sarah Palin and John McCain also reject the idea that no government can legitimately depart from respect for God-ordain justice (right), which represents the limit in principle on government power at every level. Since this is the basis in principle for the concept of constitutionally limited government, such politicians are not constitutionalists either.

I’m not overjoyed with the RandPaul support, but Keyes is the last person that needs to be critiquing Palin.
Palin has also supported...Kasich, Portman and other Ohio hopefuls. As well as other conservatives. Sprinkled in are a few I don’t prefer, but overall she is supporting coservatives.

Keyes makes the mistake of attributing Ron Paul’s ideas to his son. Keyes has made himself irrelevant. Rand Paul is the strongest constitutional conservative in the race who actually can articulate those views without sounding like a old coon dog.

Paul thinks states can allow abortion if they want to. So does Palin. They pretend the Fourteenth Amendment doesn’t exist.
Conversely, Bill Johnson stands on the Reagan pro-life plank, which recognizes the personhood of the child and their protection by the Fourteenth Amendment.

Here is a Rasmussen poll result from last month:
2010 Kentucky Senate Race
Rand Paul (R) 49%
Daniel Mongiardo (D) 35%
Some Other Candidate 3%
Not Sure 13%
Bill Johnson doesn't even register on the radar.
But, then again, Keyes was never about actually WINNING elections.

"I am 100% pro life. I believe abortion is taking the life of an innocent human being. I believe life begins at conception and it is the duty of our government to protect this life. I will always vote for any and all legislation that would end abortion or lead us in the direction of ending abortion. I believe in a Human Life Amendment and a Life at Conception Act as federal solutions to the abortion issue. I also believe that while we are working toward this goal, there are many other things we can accomplish in the near term."

Conservatives need to come to grips with the meaning of Federalism. If we get enough right-thinking U.S.S.C. justices and Roe v. Wade is overturned then States will still be able to choose to have legal abortion. I am ok with this and that does not make me “pro-choice”. Keyes needs to cut the crap.

Who is A Keyes? Never heard of him.
To: EternalVigilance
From what I understand, Rand Paul is pro-life. And no question that Sarah Palin is pro-life.
Alan Keyes is a political dimwit.
