A young Christian runaway in custody of child protective services awaits her hearing tomorrow when Florida authorities will decide whether she will be forced to return to her Muslim parents – whom she says will kill her for converting to Christianity.
Fathima Rifqa Bary, 17, an honor student and cheerleader, was raised in a Muslim family in Columbus, Ohio. She became a Christian four years ago as a result of her interactions with children at school.
Atlas Shrugs' Pamela Geller has followed Bary's case closely, reporting that the girl's friends accompanied her to the school counselor after they noticed bruises covering her arms and legs that allegedly resulted from beatings by her father and brother.
"The middle school, in a serious dereliction of duty, did not report these beatings to child welfare services," Geller reported. "Beatings were random, violent, unprovoked. Take, for example, when Rifqa and her father Mohamed were driving in the car. He would force her to wear the hijab (head covering), which she hated. In her discomfort she would slouch down, embarrassed, and her father would haul off and sock her in the face so that she never forgot to sit up straight in her costume. The beatings were regular and so much a part of the landscape of Rifqa's life, she became inured to them …"
Bary hitchhiked to a bus station and ran away from home because she says her family will murder her in what is known as an honor killing. In Islamic tradition, an honor killing is the customary slaughter of a person who is believed to have brought dishonor upon his or her family.

The poor girl. I was only disowned by my non-Christian parents; I can’t imagine knowing that a parent will kill you in the name of their god.

We all know this is not an idle threat.... she need protection.
She’s a very brave girl, she has my prayers.
She’s 17 and living away from her parents. She needs to petition a judge to declare herself an adult and move on.
If there is another legal result, the Judge responsble should be beaten about the head and shoulders by his own bailiff.
How long until she is eighteen?
If only they could drag this out for a couple of months and it becomes moot.
I don’t have any faith in our judiciary. They will hand her back.
This is the right answer.
Given Florida's record with Terri Schiavo, things don't bode well for the young lady.

It’s still illegal to do that to a dog, but it set a precedent that puts women at risk.
Just another lifestyle choice. I guess the ACLU will represent the parents??
She should join the Marine corp, learn to kill, then go kick THEIR asses! That, and the second she enlists their are the other Marines I am sure will see to her safety.
If her parents belonged to some “fundamentalist Christian sect” (whether it was or not) they’d have her/keep her out of the house so fast your head would spin clean off.
God help this girl; don’t have any faith in the judicial system.
