Bad idea. I sympathize with him wanting to protect CNN from negative press but the surest way to feed a conspiracy theory, needless to say, is to try to suppress it. This is like Roger Ailes issuing a communique ordering Fox News not to cover 9/11 Truth. What is he hiding?
TVNewser has learned CNN/U.S. president Jon Klein sent an email to a handful of “Lou Dobbs Tonight” staffers last night regarding the coverage of the so-called birthers and the validity of Pres. Obama’s birth in the U.S.
In part, Klein writes, “It seems this story is dead- because anyone who still is not convinced doesn’t really have a legitimate beef.” Klein asked CNN researchers to dig into the question of why Obama couldn’t produce the original birth certificate. The researchers contacted the Hawaii Health Dept. and confirmed that paper documents were discarded in 2001 when the department went paperless. That reportedly includes Pres. Obama’s original birth certificate.
Dave Weigel, who’s been tracking the Birther phenomenon for months, floats a new story today about Team McCain having investigated the rumors last year and found nothing to them. Possible lines of Birther attack: McCain’s vetters were too dumb to find the smoking gun; even if they found the smoking gun, McCain’s eligibility was also in question at one point due to his being born in Panama so he couldn’t use it; McCain’s a RINO and wanted to lose so even if he did find the smoking gun, he probably destroyed it to help Obama out.

As another FReeper has posted, Hawaiian law forbids the destruction of ANY data on file.
Even if the paper form was discarded, they still HAVE to have it on microfilm.
The original has much more data, such as hospital and doctor’s name and signature.

Well maybe they should use the term “discontinued”. Every reference I’ve seen uses the term, “discarded”.
Or is there fire? Setting aside the interesting story about what his family said early on, etc., plenty of interesting questions have been surfaced as a result of the continued quest to see the one-eight-oh ... whoops, that was an earlier hidden document fiasco, sorry ... the actual long-form birth certificate.
We learned that there is NO rigorous process to actually ensure a candidate is actually eligible to serve - no one seems to have that responsibility. We learned that candidates on some state's ballots were not constitutionally eligible for the office they sough - granted they had no chance of winning but it begs the question "what if?" We learned that apparently no one in America has "standing" to ask the eligibility question. We also learned lots about "standing" and how the courts choose to dodge the tough ones. We learned, thanks to Bill Clinton's tutelage on parsing, that all statements about the certificate are carefully couched in legal terms and use lots of words to say nothing actually of substance.
The only thing we DIDN'T learn are the bona fides of the man currently sitting as POTUS.

Yes but if they did infact go paperless you can bet that all of the originals had to be scanned befoe they were discarded? That is the way that usually is supposed to work.
Star Traveller has some difficulty understanding the constitution and the oaths of office. It has been explained to her many times yet she repeats her point over and over. The constitution requires the president to be natural born. If there are questions about whether you meet that requirement, you have to prove it, since you control the information which would do so.
The secretaries of state, congress and judges have taken an oath to uphold and defend the constitution, yet none of them requried the candidate to prove his qualifications, even though these questions were raised during the campaign. When asked, the other candidate produced his birth certificate.
Their postions and responsibilities during the election give them the authority to do so, yet they all failed. Examples: the secretary of state of Cal decided not to do so, even though she is charged with approving candidates for the ballot. The congress approved the electoral college vote even thought they knew there were questions about his qualifications. And until recently, the courts refused to consider the cases even though many were brought before the election. Lastly, the supreme court chief justice swore him in even though the CJ knew about the cases challenging his qualifications.
Now we have people on the internet saying there was nothing that could have been done. This is the mentality that supports fraud and irresponsibility even in the highest places in our government.
The county I was born in went paperless a few years back but when I asked I was told that the paper still exists. However that doesn’t mean Hawaii does the same.

What happened to “we have his documents on file and they appear to be genuine” or words to that effect if the documents had been allegedly destroyed years before the statement, a fact that should have been known to the person making the statement?

This doesn’t sound very credible AT ALL. Are we supposed to believe Hawaii didn’t microfilm the paper copy on record? How would they be able to validate that Obama’s COLB is indeed correct without an original copy (as they claimed earlier). What about the data on WHERE he was born and the attending physicians and witnesses. And why wasn’t this publicly disclosed a year ago? This story STINKS.

First off, if the paper copy never existed why did all those folks swear to have seen it?
Second, it’s not so much the birth cert but the info on it that’s important - like WHO IS THE FATHER and what is his citizenship?
That information could also be found elsewhere... college, passports, medical records. You know, all the stuff that’s never seen the light of day.

I would think all records dept did go to microfiche but the original is still there. In adoptions they seal the records unless both the parent and the child agree to release the original I think at 18.
CNN was founded by Ted Turner and is probably still owned by him and his minions. Not much better than if it was really owned by the Saudis.
I find the “discarded” explaination interesting. Didn’t the Governor state earlier that she had “seen” the document, acknowledged one existed and then sealed same. It seems it would be tough to do all that if the document was destroyed in 2001.
