It looks bad but I’m betting that was the product description for a large purchase.
Gov paying over a half million dollars a pound for sliced ham? Thomas Lifson According to Recovery.gov, the new Obama website showing us how much the country is being stimulated by government spending, the taxpayers are buying sliced frozen ham at $550,000 per pound.
Well, I suspect that most of you realize that this is probably a misleading description of the service provided. If the government were going to buy 2 pounds of ham, they probably would not put it out to bid.
On the other hand, this might be the device that Obama is using to funnel federal money into CA without getting caught.
I’ll bet you if you track the solicitation down, you’ll find a quantity amount missing from this story and the award notification. The government would not issue a contract for a 2 pound tin of sliced ham. More practically it is for an amount of ham tins weighing 2 lbs more appropriate to the award price....this story is nothing.....
This is a Hormel owned company. Maybe they were getting money to cover swine flu losses. heh.
It must really be great ham! I wonder if it’s Kosher? At that price it had better be!
Mark
Maybe it’s kosher ham.

I guess this is the “definitive PORK project!”

Jobs created ZERO.
Jobs saved ZERO.
Money wasted by incompetence 1.1 million dollars.
At this rate we’ll ned 500 stimulus bills.
Heck, I’ll be patriotic and sell it to them for only $20,000 /pound.
It’s actually a contract to provide ham to food banks. The description is the food product unit description.

There’s plenty of abuse in the recovery.gov site but not as cut and dried as this seems to be. Funny and tragic though if true!
What is Del Monte in San Francisco getting over 10 million dollars for? It says undefined. Also why is Chicago missing from the map? Or am I going blind?
Out of the $48,402,384.21 that is being spent on Agricultural Marketing Service and Farm Services in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act[so far], $16,784,272.81 is being spent on CANNED PORK from Lakeside Foods in Wisconsin.
Other culinary spending highlights:
Canned Fruit:$15,209,487.84
Eggs:$804,540.00
Cheese:$7,270,829.28
Meat:$32,388,356.37
{{Pork =$25,350,472.81}}
{{Poultry =$7,037,883.56}}
Let’s just say it’s a typo and they meant 2 TONS. That’s still almost $300 a pound.
okay, not for nothing, but these are the people who are going to make health care decisions for me and my family?
I’m done, screw this ...
this is nothing but insanity!
That had better be some pretty good ham.
