Gov paying over a half million dollars a pound for sliced ham?

Gov paying over a half million dollars a pound for sliced ham? Thomas Lifson According to Recovery.gov, the new Obama website showing us how much the country is being stimulated by government spending, the taxpayers are buying sliced frozen ham at $550,000 per pound. I wonder what they would pay for fresh ham?

And here I thought prosciutto was expensive. Is this going to be served to guests at one of the many parties the Obamas like to throw? Half million dollar a pound ham won't really uimpress the Saudis, if Obama offers it to them, no matter how low he bows.

This makes the $100/lb wagyu steaks used at White House parties look like a bargain.

It looks bad but I’m betting that was the product description for a large purchase.

Well, I suspect that most of you realize that this is probably a misleading description of the service provided. If the government were going to buy 2 pounds of ham, they probably would not put it out to bid.

On the other hand, this might be the device that Obama is using to funnel federal money into CA without getting caught.

I’ll bet you if you track the solicitation down, you’ll find a quantity amount missing from this story and the award notification. The government would not issue a contract for a 2 pound tin of sliced ham. More practically it is for an amount of ham tins weighing 2 lbs more appropriate to the award price....this story is nothing.....

It must really be great ham! I wonder if it’s Kosher? At that price it had better be!

What is even more unbelievable is that that was the LOW bid. They should have sent an intern down to Safeway.

You and others may be correct that this is a description for a large purchase quantity. There’s more to the story, very probably, but the government website that’s supposed to be oh-so-transparent about such things states exactly what’s posted here.

Here’s another question for you. What is the ham for, and by what constitutional authorization is the Federal Government allowed to purchase it?

Heck, I’ll be patriotic and sell it to them for only $20,000 /pound.

It's on the Gov. website.

From "Recovery.org" - the official listing of the rape of the American taxpayer and their offspring.

It may be wrong on the administration-controlled website, but if someone could track down the SOLICITATION on FedBizOps, they would see the amount. What is the ham for? What do you think our chow halls serve our soldiers? It’s not all MREs, you know.

It’s actually a contract to provide ham to food banks. The description is the food product unit description.

(scroll to bottom)

There’s plenty of abuse in the recovery.gov site but not as cut and dried as this seems to be. Funny and tragic though if true!
