An Atheist Bus Campaign has arrived in New York. The ads, which say You dont have to believe in God to be a moral and ethical person, underscored by the URL for the New York City Atheists Inc. Web site, will appear on about 20 city buses.
Ken Bronstein, the president of New York City Atheists, a New York affiliate of American Atheists, planned the commercials. He said the posters will only run on Manhattan bus lines, and some members of his organization had already noticed them.
The ads will remain on buses for about a month and will be officially introduced at a news conference on Saturday at Columbus Circle in front of the Time Warner Center at 1 p.m.
This was a test campaign, Mr. Bronstein said, adding that he hoped to expand the commercials to the other boroughs in two to three months.
Joseph Zwilling, the director of communications for the Archdiocese of New York, said the ads were not offensive in the Catholic Churchs view, given their wording.
Its a free country, and theyre allowed to say whatever they want on the side of buses, Mr. Zwilling said. Theyre not attacking or disparaging the Church as far as I can see.
The advertisements cost more than $10,000 and were paid for by an anonymous donor.
Mr. Bronstein said he was more focused on establishing atheist pride and promoting acceptance of atheism.
But the moment he was certain atheism was acceptable was when he heard President Obamas inaugural address, which included a reference to nonbelievers among an enumeration of various religions.

God's response: "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death." Proverbs 14:12
The NYC bus ads are augmented by the San Fran muni line bus ads that extol Islam as the one true way.
What’s missing in this mix?
Say what?
As the sign on an English church said last Easter:
To Christians, Blessed Easter
To Jews: Blessed Passover
To Atheists: Good Luck
> If they start hitting the flat earthers, they can make points.
Young earthers are NOT flat earthers.
Lying ad hominem invective is so Leftist.
So then, if we form Christians, Inc or Catholics, Inc, then we would also be permitted to purchase advertising space on those same buses???
Quite true...they each promote different varieties of pseudoscience.
You don’t have to form a company. Christian groups have spent probably several orders of magnitude more money for public advertising than atheists.
But we would have a problem if this specific advertising venue rejected Christian advertising because it is religious in nature.
I guess in a roundabout way that was my point. :) I remember well those billboards of days gone by.
That's true, relative to man's standards. However, God says we have all sinned. God calls us to "Be Holy for I am Holy" and to "Be perfect for I am perfect". God's standard is perfection.
If you live a perfect life, you don't need Jesus. He didn't come to save the righteous but the lost. But God says none of us are righteous.
You can't stand before a perfect holy God who knows no sin, and expect to live. You need to be forgiven, if you want to survive that.
Think I could get a donor to put up money for a pro-choice ad? “Peanut butter OR jelly, never both.” Some of us take pride in out sammiches.
These dumb idiots. Don’t they realize that every time they make reference to “atheism,” one has to then think about and consider the reality of God? This is the best advertisement for God there is. It’s like telling a child to stand in the corner and don’t think about ice cream. Guess what? People are more likly to consider the prospect of a God and what might mean to them, when you tell them not to acknowledge that there is a God. You can only deny the existence of something that has within itself the distinct possibility of actually existing.
No you wouldn't. Christian non profit corporations purchase advertising all the time.
How about an ad like,
“There’s no reason for you to live. Support the President’s healthcare plan.”
> Quite true...they each promote different varieties of pseudoscience.
It’s the evolutionists that are promoting the psesudoscience. All the Creationists are saying is that the “science” of Evolution isn’t science. We admit our biases right up front, that our faith in Creationism is Faith in the unseen. But Evolutionists insist that their pixie dust faery tails are “science”.
Here is the end of your “science”.
* All things came from nothing out of nowhere for no apparent reason.
* Life is a curious side effect of an unknowing uncaring cosmos. It has no meaning and no intrinsic value.
* When you die, you are just so much compost.
* Ergo, the best you can hope for is a life of self-gratification and a painless extinction.
What a joyful worldview. And what wonderful fruits must blossom from its roots.
Enjoy.
“If the man doesn’t believe as we do, we say he is a crank, and that settles it. I mean it does nowadays, because we can’t burn him.” — Mark Twain
The ads are like saying, “Santa doesn’t exist.” They want the public to think and put God on that level. 10 grand could be spent in better ways. Would anybody in their right mind put up ads that say, “Elves don’t exist.” Yet, that is what in effect they are doing. Their public service announcement.
